Unity Changes Terms Once More, Commits to 'Being an Open Platform'

Unity has had a real interesting seven days. Last week, SpatialOS from developer Improbable was apparently barred from being used within Unity development. SpatialOS is a robust tool that many Unity developers use to add multiplayer to their games. For a time, Unity's new Terms, which went live in early December but were only clarified to Improbable last week, actually affected games that were already released. This led to some quick back and forths between Improbable and Unity through their respective sites. It all seemed to quiet down when Improbable and Epic Games formed a joint $25...

EA Cancels Yet Another Star Wars Game (Update)

A headline like "EA Cancels Another Star Wars Game" feels like they're a dime a dozen these days. I think EA may have cancelled as many Star Wars games as they have closed studios at this point. Here we are again and here EA is with another cancelled EA game on their hands. This time, the development studio has decided to cancel its open-world Star Wars game that EA Vancouver had been working on. Prior to EA Vancouver working on this title, it was in development from Visceral Games. Of course, EA shut down Visceral Games back in 2017. In fact, when Visceral was working on the game it wasn't an open-world title but rather a more linear action-adventure game that was being directed by...

Review: Last Year: The Nightmare (PC)

A solid asymmetrical survival-horror game that's light on content.

Asymmetrical multiplayer games have been going steady for the past few years now. Some of the biggest games in that particular genre include the long departed Evolve, the still ongoing Dead by Daylight, and even Friday the 13th if you're into that sort of thing. You can now add in Last Year: The Nightmare to the mix as it combines 5 versus 1 multiplayer with elements of survival-horror. As with those other titles, Last Year places one player in the shoes of a bloodthirsty murderer while the rest of the players play as one of five teenagers trying to survive and escape. What it delivers is a well-crafted gameplay experience that ultimately comes up short on content. Last Year: The Nightmare relies on a number of tried and true horror movie clich├ęs. The group of teenagers include the nerdy kid, the popular girl, a stereotypical jock, and m...

Jump Force Open Beta Begins January 18

Come January 18th, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners will get to try out Jump Force in what Bandai Namco is calling an "open beta weekend." Be it a true beta or a "demo" is besides the point because what really matters is that you will finally get to test drive the fighting game that we have been passing along news about now for months.

Here's how it's going to go down. First off, there will be four separate three-hour long sessions:

Secondly? Well, that's kind of it. Just make sure you download the demo and you can play during...

Bungie Ditches Activision, Acquires Rights to Destiny

Moving forward, all future Destiny titles will be self-published by Bungie. I guess even Activision had to tap out after the latest Destiny 2 puzzle, eh?

After eight years, Bungie and Activision are parting ways and with it so does Activision's control over the Destiny franchise. Bungie announced today that they are acquiring publishing rights to their popular shooter.

Mere moments ago, Bungie made the announcement on their website in an aptly named news entry called "Our Destiny."

Bungie continues on to say that they will...

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Not Coming to Nintendo Switch

It seemed like 2018 would be the year that Call of Duty came to the Nintendo Switch but uh, I guess not. According to an interview Twinfinite conducted with Treyarch's Senior Producer Yale Miller and Gameplay Designer Matt Scronce, there are just no plans to bring Black Ops 4 to the Switch.
Hey, maybe they just didn't have enough time, you know? Maybe it got lost in the past three ...

  • Black Ops 4 - No Single Player Campaign; Battle Royale Mode and BattleNet Exclusive Confirmed

There are times where you don't actually want to believe some rumors. That's the case with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, which just had its big reveal event much to the delight of Zombies, multiplayer, and battle royale fans. Sorry single player campaign fans, you aren't included in this celebration. That's right, Treyarch and Activision have officially killed off the single player campaign for Call of Duty. What's more is that they killed it off from the Black Ops series, which is arguably the best recent story arch the Call of Duty games have had going for it in quite some time. Instead, we have three different Zombies campaigns, the usual competitive multiplayer stuff, and a battle royale mode that we saw a total of 0 seconds of gameplay for today. Also, the PC release looks like it's exclusive to Battle.net with the port being han...

  • It's Time for Call of Duty to Ditch PC and the Single-Player Campaign

It's Time for Call of Duty to Ditch PC and the Single-Player Campaign

Yesterday, it was revealed that Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII was going to ditch the single-player campaign due to unspecified "development issues." This begs the question: Is this the beginning of the end for the single-player Call of Duty experience? More importantly, should this be the end of single-player campaigns for Call of Duty?

    In short: Yes.

According to PSNProfiles, only 31.34% of all PlayStation 4 owners beat Call of Duty: WWII's single-player campaign. Compare that to the 36.51% that hit Prestige 1 in the online multiplayer, and the over 37% that completed the first map of Zombies. For a franchise that once seemed to pride itself on...

  • Rumor: Battle Royale Mode Included with Black Ops 4

Rumor: Battle Royale Mode Included with Black Ops 4

I saw this earlier in Discord and I thought it was just some stupid joke. Nope, apparently there's a fairly solid rumor going around that Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII will include a Battle Royale mode.

Both Kotaku and Charlie Intel posted independent rumors today that Raven Software is working on this Battle Royale mode for the Treyarch developed Black Ops IIII.
    Via Kotaku:

  • Sources Say Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 to Ditch Traditional Single-Player Campaign

According to a report that went up today from Polygon, Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII will not feature a "traditional" single-player campaign. It will instead focus more on the multiplayer and Zombie modes.

Sources close to Polygon said that development by Treyarch on Black Ops IIII has been going rather poorly. As a result, it seems as though the single-player campaign wasn't going to be completed in time for the game's release date, which is still set for October 12, 2018. At some point, development then switched away from creating the single player campaign to expanding the game's multiplayer and Zombies modes. The source then goes on to say t...

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is Reportedly Real and Won't Include Multiplayer

Two separate sources have independently confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is indeed real. Both of these sources have also said that Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is only the single player component from the original game.

Sources have supplied this information to Charlie Intel and (presumably) other sources have separately supplied this information to Eurogamer...

  • Next Call of Duty Seems to be Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII

Next Call of Duty Seems to be Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII

It started as a rumor earlier tonight but some anonymous sources close to Kotaku have confirmed that the next Call of Duty title will be Call of Duty: Black Ops IV. Sorry, wait a second.

I meant to say that the next Call of Duty title looks to be Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII. The tally marks, Mason, what do they mean?! If you're reading this and suddenly feel dumber, how do you think I felt having to write it out? That's right, to hell with conventional roman numerals! This is 'merica! We do things real stupid-like here and that's just the way it is! The rumor first started tonight when Houston Rockets player James Harden put on a full ca...

  • Free Call of Duty: WWII Event Scheduled Around Release of Resistance DLC

Free Call of Duty: WWII Event Scheduled Around Release of Resistance DLC

Starting on January 23, Activision is planning a free event for Call of Duty: WWII that coincides with the release of the Resistance DLC. This is apparently limited to some in-game event that will provide you new free weapons, the return of the Demolition mode, new Resistance gear to go with the new Resistance Division, double XP, and more. There is a trailer that should give you a good overview of the content that will be available. In addition, the Resistance page (that I already linked but am linking again here) provides even more detailed information on the DLC, including the content that you'll be able to ...

Call of Duty: WWII: Resistance Trailer Shows Off New Nazi Zombies DLC

A new trailer, entitled The Darkest Shore, came out today for Call of Duty: WWII. The trailer is for the upcoming Resistance DLC for the Nazi Zombies mode in the game. Call of Duty: WWII: Resistance is slated to be released on the PlayStation 4 on January 30. Other platforms will probably get it the DLC in early March. You know how these timed exclusives work by now.

Building a Better TGN Part 2 - Overview of New and Returning Features
    Shawn Zipay

Last week I kind of detailed the process of what it took to even get the site up and running following the upgrade to vBulletin 5.4.5 from 4.2.1. Today, I'll go over some of the new features for all of you members out there, plus some of the more forward facing changes made to the site. I'll try to make this short and a bit more concise than last week's entry. Custom StyleThe most obvious thing you will notice when visiting the site is the current site design. I worked for a long time customizing a site design from one of the default vBulletin designs. Customizations include, but are not limited to:...

Building a Better TGN Part 1 - Banks and Technical Issues
    Shawn Zipay
As you have probably noticed by now, Total Gaming Network is looking a little bit different than what it was only about a month ago. We are now on the latest version of vBulletin, which just happens to be 5.4.5. We are also on a far more up-to-date version of PHP. We are also on some better server hardware than we were previously. The Boring Technical StuffThis particular version of vBulletin (5.4.5) came out roughly a month ago. We were previously on vBulletin 4.2.1, a release that initially came out in mid-2013. This equates to roughly 5-6 yea...
