The remaining staff still employed at Bungie just shared new details on what fans can look forward to in Marathon's upcoming mid-Season 2 update. Fans of the extraction shooter will soon have access to Marathon's Vault Breaker PvE mode when the Season 2 mid-season update goes live on July 21. This PvE mode will only be playable until August 4.

The first end-game zone for Marathon, Cryo Archive, will open its doors to players on March 20, 2026. Cryo Archive features six wings that are full of cryopods, medical bays, storage areas, and seven high-security Vaults that offer top-of-the-line loot and unique weapons.

This weekend, from March 21 at 10 AM PT to March 24 at 10 AM PT, Bungie will run a beta for Ranked mode in Marathon. This mode is still in active development at Bungie and will presumably be ready for the limelight when Season 2 of Marathon rolls around. More and more it sure looks like it was a bad idea from Sony to acquire Destiny developer Bungie. In Sony's latest financial report (PDF link), they directly attribute a 31.5 billion yen (roughly $204 million USD) "impairment loss" to Destiny 2. Specifically, this impairment loss is due to Destiny 2 failing to hit sales milestones as well as declining user engagement.
