Report: Microsoft Hired Contractors to Listen to Xbox User Audio

    Xbox, invade my privacy.

According to multiple sources speaking with Vice, Microsoft had hired contractors to listen to audio picked up and recorded by Xbox One consoles.

Reportedly, human listeners, the contractors in this case, were brought into the mix in an effort to improve how the Xbox One understood voice commands. However, these contractors say that their jobs also saw them listening to the audio of multiple personal conversations in cases where the assistant was unintentionally triggered on the Xbox One.

Anybody that has a home assistant like a...

Halo: Reach Running on a PC in 4K and 60fps Looks Fantastic

    It begins.

The first wave of invites have gone out to a very small group of individuals selected to test Halo: Reach on the PC. Those who have been selected will have access to a single mission in Halo: Reach from today until July 1.

When I say that it was a "small group" that was selected, I mean it. As in the vast majority of people who have signed up as a Halo Insider have not been selected. 343 Industries notes that they picked a handful of people that have "varying ranges of hardware and are using the Windows 10 operating system." They continue...

Phantasy Star Online 2 Coming to North America Spring 2020

    Xbox One has first dibs.

Phantasy Star Online 2 is slated to make its debut in North America coming Spring 2020. This comes years after it was had become one of Japan's biggest online RPGs. However, it won't be available for anything other than the Xbox One platforms at its initial release. In fact, I'm not sure when it will hit other platforms or even what those other platforms will be. All I see is that it's debuting in North America on the Xbox One come Spring 2020.

When it releases, Phantasy Star Online 2 will be free-to-play for everyone on the Xbox One. There will...

Microsoft Announces Xbox Branded Body Wash from Makers of Axe

    Smell like a Gamer.

Microsoft announced a new partnership today with the makers of the Axe body spray, Unilever. Together, these two companies will bring to the world Xbox branded body spray, shower gel, and deodorant. It's green. It's very green. The actual lineup of products is called "Xbox Lynx" and, unfortunately for all of you already throwing money at your screens, these products will be exclusive to Australia.

If Lynx sounds familiar to you, that would be because it's the name given to Axe in markets that aren't the US. Microsoft wants gamers to "power...

Xbox Game Pass Announced for PC

I guess technically it would be the 'PC Game Pass' then.

Anthem Falls Out of Top 49 Most Played Games on Xbox

It's being beat by games that have been out for far longer.

This week, Microsoft updated their most played games section on their store. These are the most played games in the Xbox ecosystem from 1 to 49. Why 49 and not 50? How am I supposed to know? The important part here is that Anthem has now fallen off of this most played list.

The last handful of games on the list include Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Borderlands 2, Brawlhalla, and Battlefield 1. That's Battlefield 1, not the more recent Battlefield 5 which is actually looking to be the 23rd most played game on the...

Minecraft Earth Announced as Minecraft Becomes Most Sold Game of All Time

    Build an alternate reality.

Microsoft wants to build a world within our own world. That's the basic idea behind the newly announced augmented reality game, Minecraft Earth. This is a newly announced upcoming augmented reality game that should be coming to a mobile phone near you this Summer with the launch of a closed beta program.

Minecraft Earth will be free to play when it releases and may include some sort of microtransactions. The team still isn't sure yet just how or what they would monetize with the game, so it's still very much in the air. However, they do make...

Microsoft and Sony Announce Team Up for Gaming and Cloud Services

This partnership focuses on "game and content-streaming services."

Microsoft announced today that they and Sony have formed a partnership that will see the two working together on AI solutions and "innovations to enhance customer experiences in their direct-to-consumer entertainment platforms." That's probably as close as you're going to get to them strongly hinting at some form of actual gaming partnership in this announcement release.

    Xbox One SAD Edition Announced

Microsoft officially announced a new Xbox One SKU today. It's called the 1TB Xbox One S All-Digital Edition, or the Xbox One SAD Edition if you're feeling cheeky. As you may have already gathered from the name, there is no optical drive included on this Xbox One.

It's just like a normal Xbox One S except you can't play any disc-based games. You can only download games or stream them. So just like the regular Xbox One S, you can still pre-order games, pre-load games, save games locally and to the cloud, and you still have access to your entire digital game library. It's literally...

Refunds Now Allowed on PlayStation Store Pre-orders but There is a Catch

For the longest time, if you wanted a refund from Sony for a purchase made through the PlayStation Store, you were either completely out of luck or were maybe given a one time exception. There were a few other times where Sony cracked open that refund door another inch, such as when games were severely broken to the point of crashing systems, but these were made once in a blue moon. Even then it wasn't a guarantee that you would be issued a refund if you requested one.

Yesterday, Sony pushed out a slightly less draconian refund policy for purchases made from the PlayStation...

Microsoft Reveals World of Warcraft Now Runs on DirectX 12 on Windows 7

I really have no idea why Microsoft is promoting this news, yet here we are. A new MSDN blog post was put up today by Jianye Lu, program manager at Microsoft, that talks about how World of Warcraft is a DirectX 12 game running on Windows 7.

There are a lot of things simultaneously incredibly weird and incredibly interesting about this news. It marks the first major title to use DirectX 12 on Windows 7. That's pretty neat. However, DirectX 12 has largely been a Windows 10 exclusive API. It's actually been a pretty big reason behind pushing some people to upgrade to Windows...
