Embracer's rampage continues.
Eidos-Montreal, a development studio currently under the Embracer umbrella, made the sad announcement that employees at the studio were being laid off. Eidos took to social media to confirm that 97 people have been let go "from development teams, administration, and support services".
The studio says that "global economic context, the challenges of our industry, and the comprehensive restructuring announced by Embracer have finally impacted our studio". Their statement continues on to say that they "are working to support all impacted personnel through this transition".
As always, we wish nothing but the best for all employees that have been laid off from this and all Embracer owned studios.
In related news, a new Bloomberg report by Jason Schreier says that Embracer has canceled a new Deus Ex game that has already spent about two years in development. Instead of making a Deus Ex game that fans have been basically begging for over these near eight years since the release of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Eidos is instead being forced to work on a new, original IP.
Embracer acquired Eidos-Montreal, and several other studios, in May 2022. In that same month, Embracer seemed to be particularly interested in "sequels, remakes, remasters, and spin-offs" from the IPs they acquired with these studio acquisitions. That all changed after a $2 billion deal fell through and Embracer started to lay off hundreds of employees across multiple studios, including shutting down a few studios entirely.

#1Shawn Zipay commented01-29-2024, 04:27 PMEditing a commentI'm personally quite ticked off about that canceled Deus Ex game. The rumors of a new Deus Ex fired up literally a week or two after I completed a recent re-playthrough of both the latest games in April to May 2022. Two years of development, gone. Fuck.
