Randy Pitchford Steps Down as President of Gearbox Software

And now, for his next trick...

Gearbox Software announced that the company's co-founder, Randy Pitchford, will step down as president. Only, he's not leaving Gearbox. Pitchford will still serve as the CEO and president of Gearbox parent company, Gearbox Entertainment, and will shift his focus towards leading the company's newly formed Gearbox Studios.

Taking his place as president of Gearbox Software will be the company's former chief technology officer Steve Jones. This...

Godfall Hits PlayStation 4; New Expansion Released

Now PlayStation 4 owners will get to fell a God.

The PlayStation 4 release of Godfall is now available courtesy of Gearbox. While I don't know anybody personally that has been clamoring for Godfall to be released on the PlayStation 4, I'm sure there are some people out there. You know, somewhere. Players on the PS4 and PS5 will be able to party-up together with friends via PlayStation Network.

Godfall is a game where you will battle your way through a bunch of enemies...

Trailer for Cancelled Duke Nukem Begins Appears Online

Third-person Duke and four-player co-op looked like the main focuses.

A trailer for the cancelled, and probably long-forgotten about, Duke Nukem Begins has surfaced online. The game was in the works at Gearbox around 2008 when it was cancelled, probably due to legal issues surrounding the use of the IP, which is a battle that is still raging even now.

Animation studio Janimation was hired by Gearbox to put together a cinematic trailer for the game before it was scrapped....

Borderlands 3 Crossplay is Live, Except on PlayStation

New update also brings back some seasonal content.

Today, Gearbox made good on a promise they made back in May about adding crossplay support to Borderlands 3. This means that as of right now, those Borderlands 3 players on PC, Xbox, Mac, and even Stadia can team up and do all sorts of shooting and/or looting.

In order to get started, you will first need to create a Crossplay Display name. This will pop up automatically after you download the latest update, even if you...

Gearbox Announces Godfall Expansion and PS4 Release

Since they didn't really show off much of anything else.

During their E3 2021 presentation, Gearbox talked a lot about the upcoming Borderlands movie. They again showed off that Tiny Tina's Wonderlands trailer for the third time in the past few days and they showed some Tribes of Midgard footage. They also said Homeworld 3 a few times without so much as a glimpse of that actual game. They also gave some new news about Godfall. There wasn't really much to it all.

    As far...

    It's like Borderlands, but not.

To kick off the Summer Game Fest Kickoff Live event today, Gearbox and 2K announced Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. This is a spin-off game based on the world of Borderlands but it's not quite Borderlands. There are several key differences, which we'll touch upon in a moment.

Cross-play Coming to Borderlands 3, Except on PlayStation

Gearbox was ordered to remove cross-play on PlayStation platforms.

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford did a little round of "good news, bad news" today on Twitter. The good news, Pitchford says, is that an update is coming to Borderlands 3 that enables full cross-play support across all platforms! The bad news is that apparently Gearbox was ordered, by way of their "publisher" that they had to remove cross-play support from the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions...

Borderlands 3 Cost Epic $146 million for Six Months of EGS Exclusivity

At least $80 million was guaranteed to 2K.

Another big reveal came today from the legal battle between Epic Games v. Apple. This time we learned a little bit about what it takes to buy off six months of exclusivity for the Epic Games Store. Specifically, we learned just what it took to make Borderlands 3 a six month Epic Games Store exclusive.

According to internal Epic finances from October 2019, Epic Games paid a total of $146 million (USD) to Borderlands 3 publisher...

Borderlands 3 'Director's Cut' DLC is Delayed

The final piece of DLC for the game is postponed a bit.

Gearbox tweeted out this afternoon that due to the unfortunate circumstances involving adverse weather in Texas last month, the Borderlands 3 Director's Cut DLC has been delayed. The add-on content was supposed to release next week on March 18th. Instead, it will now be pushed back until April 8th.

The Director's Cut won't really do much to change the game. In fact, the base game will remain relatively untouched,...

    Farewell Battleborn

Servers for Battleborn have been shut down forever.

You can't say you didn't see this one coming. The servers for Battleborn have been shut down for good. The final day of the game being available to play was January 31, 2021. Gearbox sent the game out not with a bang, but with a whimper.

The final update for the game came all the way back in October 2017. We knew about the server shut down as early as November 2019. Last night, the plug was pulled from the servers and...

Gearbox is Now Suing 3D Realms Over the Duke Nukem Acquisition

Gearbox claims 3D Realms is in breach of contract.

Gearbox is headed back to the courtroom, though they may have never actually left. This time, they're the ones doing the suing. The development studio is suing Apogee Software, the parent company of 3D Realms, over a breach of contract in its acquisition of the Duke Nukem franchise and IP.
