Espire 1: VR Operative Update Brings PC Version in Line with Quest Version
It seems as though the PC version was about three updates behind the Meta Quest release.
A new update for Espire 1: VR Operative is out today for the Steam and Rift platforms. This update is called the Convergence Update and includes all of the content from updates 1.7, 1.8, and 1.9 that were already released for the Meta Quest version of the game. Publisher Tripwire Presents and developer Digital Lode say that there are some additional PC features that are also included in this update.... -

AMD's FSR 3 is Finally Here, but Only in Two Games
AMD's frame generation tech makes its debut today.
AMD has officially launched AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3) today, complete with their own go at frame generation. FSR 3 is so far only available in two games: Forspoken and Immortals of Aveum. However, there are plans to include support for FSR 3 in dozens of upcoming titles.

SAG-AFTRA and Game Studios Fail to Reach New Agreement
The threat of a strike looms ever nearer.
Word came in late in the day on September 28 that scheduled talks between SAG-AFTRA and members of the video game industry have come to an end. Unfortunately, those talks led nowhere as no new deal or terms were agreed upon by both parties.

Sega Cancels Hyenas from Creative Assembly
Other projects have also been cancelled.
Sega has shutdown development on Hyenas, the multiplayer extraction shooter that was in development at Creative Assembly. This development stoppage comes shortly after a few beta periods for Hyenas were held online for testers. The latest test having just ended on September 11th.

Electronic Arts just announced that they are working on implementing their own anti-cheat (or anticheat), into their current and upcoming multiplayer titles. Mortal Kombat Patch Coming to Fix Player 1 Advantage
NetherRealm Studios says a patch is coming soon.
This past week, a bug was discovered in Mortal Kombat 1 that unintentionally gives whomever is Player 1 an unfair advantage over their competition. The issue is that Player 1 is able to pull off combos that are impossible for Player 2 to pull off. It doesn't matter which direction the player is facing, only that they be Player 1.
Obviously, this is a pretty severe issue for a fighting game that can be played competitively.... -

Around 16% of all Epic employees laid off.
Epic Games is laying off around 16% of all employees, as confirmed today by Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney. This 16% comes out to roughly 900 employees that have been laid off from the company that is responsible for Unreal Engine, Fortnite, and the Epic Games Store.

FTC Plans to Renew Case Against Microsoft in Activision Blizzard Buyout
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) says that they will more forward with an administrative case against Microsoft's $69 billion purchase of Activision Blizzard. This plan was announced by the FTC (PDF) themselves on September 26, 2023. The good news here is that the FTC's tomfoolery cannot prevent Microsoft from closing the deal before the deadline of October 18, 2023.
