Happy birthday, Half-Life!

On Sunday, November 19, 2023, Half-Life officially turns 25 years old. To commemorate this crazy milestone for this awesome game and franchise, Valve is giving away the original game along with releasing a major update.

First up, Valve has made the original Half-Life free to keep to anybody that adds it to their Steam library this weekend. If you somehow do not own the original Half-Life, take this opportunity to add it to your account now and...

Alan Wake 2 Review: A Must-Play Psychological Horror Experience

Easily, the best horror game in years.

In 2010 Remedy Entertainment released Alan Wake, a game where a writer is pulled into a horrifying world seemingly of his own creation. Alan Wake was a game that I bounced off at least two times. Despite the game being well received by critics and fans, I felt like its gameplay was just a repetitive slog that even its unique story could not overcome. When a sequel was announced by Remedy, I found myself extremely indifferent to the news. Still...

This also means that Activision Blizzard IPs such as Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Overwatch, Candy Crush Saga, and hundreds more are now owned by Microsoft.

This entire saga of a tale began back on January 18, 2022...

Review: RIG 900 MAX HX Wireless Headset

My new daily driver.

We are once again delving into the world of gaming headsets, this time with a spotlight shining brightly on Nacon's RIG 900 MAX HX. Priced at $249.99 (USD), the 900 MAX HX aims to be a more premium and feature-filled offering than the RIG 600 PRO HS we recently reviewed. Featuring the same dual-wireless connectivity as the 600 PROs, the 900 MAX HX sets itself apart thanks to Dolby Personalized audio support with Dolby Atmos 3D, plus a charging base station, a more...

Review: Starfield

A safe, if not soulless, journey through the cosmos.

Bethesda Game Studios releases are safe. They are familiar. You know almost exactly what to expect when a major new release from them rolls around. They instill a feeling of "I know this game won't be groundbreaking, but I know I'll have fun." Yes, there are some obvious differences, but the heart of each Bethesda game is almost universally the same. The recent release of Starfield is no different. To put it bluntly: Starfield is Fall...

Adjustments Made to Dark Protocol LTE for Battlefield 2042

Some changes were made based on player feedback.

DICE just rolled out a few tweaks for the latest Battlefield 2042 limited time event, Dark Protocol. The event, which kicked off just this past Tuesday, finds players fighting for control over a series of points. Players are also fighting for control over Geist Forges, a unique device that periodically spawns A.I. controlled synths that will join the fight for whichever side holds control over the forge.

    Based on some...

DICE just announced the Dark Protocol event for Battlefield 2042. This new event will run for two weeks starting on Tuesday, October 31. It will come to an end on Tuesday, November 14.

In Dark Protocol, players will jump into a 12 vs 12 game mode called Killswitch that will take place across a series of maps: Redacted, Manifest, Hourglass, and Spearhead. As players take control of nodes, they will be able to "print"...

This free weekend is available to those on PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam. For some reason, there isn't a free weekend on the EA app version of the game. Playing this weekend allows you to play on the newly released Season 6 map, Redacted. You also get access to...

Fix for Battlefield 2042 Steam 'Validation' Issue

This workaround could help Steam users get into the game.

Following today's Season 6: Dark Creations update for Battlefield 2042, most Steam players have run into a bit of a snag. When attempting to launch Battlefield 2042, Steam will attempt a "Validation" step for the game instead of launching the game. Once completed, the game will still fail to launch and kick off another "Validation" step.

It seems that a workaround to this issue lies not...

A few hours after Update 6.0.0 deploys, Season 6: Dark Creations and its new Battle Pass will go live. Once everything is updated and live, there will be a 24/7 playlist up for Redacted, the new map coming in Season 6.

A very brief overview of the new Season 6 content and changes are here:

There will also be a bunch of cosmetic items offered through the Season 6 Battle Pass, which again offers both a free track and a Premium track if you spend a bit of cash (or have enough Coins saved from previous season passes).

Whatever the case is, we'll find out more soon because Season 6: Dark Creations is set to launch on October 10th for all platforms.

Battlefield 2042 to Utilize New EA Anticheat in Season 6

A new anti-cheat has entered the battlefield.

Electronic Arts just announced that they are working on implementing their own anti-cheat (or anticheat), into their current and upcoming multiplayer titles. Much like the simply named EA app, EA's new anticheat is called EA anticheat. Yes, that lack of capitalization is correct and slightly frustrating to look at.

The Battlefield 2042 team at DICE says that come the launch of Season 6 in October, the game will switch over...

Battlefield 2042: Redux is a Month of Returning Content Ahead of Season 6

Season 6 delayed, so here is some old content you may like instead.

DICE announced today that they have had to push Season 6 for Battlefield 2042 back by a month. That means Season 6 will now be out in October instead of September as initially planned. That also means that there is now a gap between the end of Season 5 and the start of Season 6.

That's where Battlefield 2042: Redux comes into play. This interim season will bring back those limited-time modes from previous...

Squads in Battlefield 2042 to Improve in Next Update

Revolutionary new ideas still being added to Battlefield 2042.

When DICE "improved" the squad system in Battlefield 2042, they left a lot to be desired. I cannot even remember what exactly they did to improve it, but those improvements still failed to give much of any control to how your squad functions in the game. You were unable to lock your squad. You also couldn't kick anybody from the squad if, for example, a vacant slot fills with a random after your friend's game...

Battlefield 2042 Update 5.1.0 Changes Detailed

DICE details the new update plus a special July event.

Details on Update 5.1.0 for Battlefield 2042 were shared, though the update itself will not drop until the first week of July. A specific release date for this update was not offered, but it can probably be assumed that it will be out in the first half of next week.

Update 5.1.0 looks to be more of a fine-tuning and fixes update for existing content. The update notes for 5.1.0 also include yet another teaser for the...

  • DICE Issues Apology Freebies for Player Profile Stat Issue in Battlefield 2042

Double XP and more for everyone!

Apparently, ever since Season 5 of Battlefield 2042 launched this past week, there have been issues with player stats not updating. These are the stats you can see under your Player Profile and include information like your K/D ratio, win rate, weapon and gadget statistics, and more.

    Battlefield 2042 Season 6 Announced

It seems as though DICE and EA pulled a fast one on all of us. Battlefield 2042 Season 5: New Dawn was supposed to be the fifth and final season for the futuristic multiplayer FPS. I say supposed to be, because they just announced a sixth season earlier today.

The announcement came via the official Battlefield social media channels like Instagram and Twitter.

We know jack squat about what Season 6 will include. DICE said in their announcement that...

  • Poll: Best Year Ever for Game Releases?
    by Shawn Zipay
2023 has been a banger year for new game releases.

2023 has already been an absolutely incredible year when it comes to new game releases. In 2023 alone, Metacritic lists 25 game releases that have amassed an average score of 90 or higher. The previous best year, again according to Metacritic, was back in 2011.

Let's just take a little glimpse at some of the games that came out this year that scored a 90 or higher. We had Baldur's Gate 3 in August, The Legend of Zelda:...
