Review: Judgment (PS4)

The same, but different.

Sega, specifically the Yakuza team at Sega, are really damn good at what they do. The primarily Japanese developer has been on a roll with their stellar Yakuza-focused releases this generation that include Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami and Kiwami 2, and Yakuza 6. All of these titles have received high praise both from myself and from other media outlets these past few years.

It should then come as no surprise that the level of quality found in those titles does not take any sort of hit with the team's latest release, Judgment. Make no mistake about...

EA Attempts to Distance Themselves from 'Loot Boxes' by Calling them 'Surprise Mechanics'

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it must be a surprise mechanic.

EA and loot boxes, loot boxes and EA. In some people's minds, there is no better pairing save for "gamers" and "rising up." For the past several years now, the studio has been repeatedly under fire for how they included loot boxes in many of their titles. They have included loot box mechanics in games like Madden with their Madden Ultimate Team card packs, FIFA with the similar Ultimate Team mode, Battlefield 1, and perhaps most notably, Star Wars Battlefront 2.

In fact,...

Chivalry 2 Announced as Epic Games Store Timed Exclusive

Another Tripwire published title revealed as an EGS timed-exclusive.

The Chivalry series is making a comeback at what could be a very interesting time. Despite fierce competition from Mordhau, Torn Banner Studios announced that they are working on Chivalry 2. It will once again be a multiplayer first-person "slasher" set in medieval battlefields. The game, published by Tripwire Interactive, is targeting a 2020 release on the Epic Games Store.

  • March 2017 "Free" Games with Gold - Evolve, Layers of Fear, and More

March 2017 "Free" Games with Gold - Evolve, Layers of Fear, and More

March looks to be a rather interesting month for the free Games with Gold on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. One of the games included is Evolve, a game that technically no longer has its original developer working on it. The console versions of the game don't (the last I knew at least) have the latest F2P mechanics and content added to it as the PC version currently has. So that might be a thing.

If nothing else, Xbox owners will get to play the enjoyable Layers of Fear and Borderlands 2. There's also Heavy Weapon which is also a game.
Starting on March 1, play as a disturbed painter obsessed with finishing his masterpiece, haunted by his

  • Dead Rising 4 Coming to Steam on March 14

Dead Rising 4 Coming to Steam on March 14

As most everyone suspected, Dead Rising 4 was merely a timed exclusive for the Windows 10 Store. That's right, on March 14 Dead Rising 4 will come out on Steam. How utterly, utterly shocking.
Dead Rising 4 welcomes players to the seasonal festivities of Willamette, Colorado amidst a mysterious outbreak that is spreading across the Willamette Memorial Megaplex Mall and surrounding town. Photojournalist Frank West returns 16 years after the events of Dead Rising, this time around with his brand new state of the art camera to capture those zombie selfies. With intense action and an unmatched level of weapon and character customisation, Dead Rising 4, delivers a heart pounding experience as players explore, scavenge and fight to survive in an open world sandbox on the brink of the next zombie apocalypse.

  • Nvidia Counts Down to 1080Ti Reveal

Nvidia Counts Down to 1080Ti Reveal

Nvidia had their own (pseudo) announcement today. The company has put up a timer on their GeForce website. The countdown is for roughly six days from now (six days, 3.5 hours from the time of this posting to be exact) and it strongly hints at them finally revealing the GTX 1080Ti.

They also included a small tweet earlier today saying "It's almost time" with a video that again highlights the "Ti" part.
As the countdown takes us to February 28, it might be a safe bet that the cards will be launched at that point. Let's just hope that Nvidia doesn't do a "soft" launch with this, or worse, a pa...

Valve Lowers Barrier to Entry for SteamVR Tracking Development

Valve announced tonight that they are nixing the requirement to attend a $3,000 training course for their SteamVR Tracking solution.
After working with numerous third parties and updating the tools, Valve is opening more direct access to the technology and course work, available free of charge in English and Chinese. The full, in person training courses are still available for those interested. In addition, SteamVR base stations will be available from Valve later this year. SteamVR Tracking was first made available to third parties in August of last year, and over 500 companies have signed up. Developed in-house at Valve, SteamVR Track

  • Speedrunner Distortion2 Completes Nioh in Just Over an Hour and a Half

Speedrunner Distortion2 Completes Nioh in Just Over an Hour and a Half

Speedruns for Nioh have been underway roughly a day or two after the game was released. The game has proven especially popular with runners that favor games like the Dark Souls franchise and Bloodborne. Speedrunner Distortion2 is no stranger to either of those games, often trading world records with his fellow runners over at Speedsouls. Distortion2 is the "current" world record holder (as of February 21, 2017) in Nioh with a time for doing all main missions of 1:36:51. Due to how new the game is, it is very likely that this record will come and go many times over by a variety of runners in the days, weeks, and ...

Persona 5 - Your Invitation to the Velvet Room is Here

I don't pretend to know the first thing about the Persona series. I'm not going to pretend to know anything about this new Persona 5 trailer and The Velvet Room. I'm just going to let the press release and trailer speak for themselves.
Sometimes when the protagonist of Persona 5 goes to sleep, he doesn't dream like a normal Japanese high-schooler. Oh no. He gets transported to a place that exists between dream and reality, mind and matter. A place where fate has made it look like a prison. A place where sacrifice creates power, and where a familiar face will assist the leader of the Phantom Thieves in reaching his full potential. Get ready
