Today, Microsoft is laying off 2.1% of its workforce. This equates to 4,800 people that are being let go. The company's XBOX division is cutting about 20% of its entire workforce. All of this is being done in an effort to cut costs due to rising prices and expenses brought about by artificial intelligence (AI).
Starting January 2028, Sony will no longer produce physical discs for new PlayStation game releases. All games released in January 2028 and after will be available only through digital stores such as the PlayStation Store.
Sony attempts to justify this move by claiming it's a "natural direction" in order to "adapt to consumer trends as the general preference for digital media significantly outpaces physical discs."...

This is Diablo 4 at its best. I mean it this time. For real.
Returning to the world of Sanctuary for this latest chapter feels like a true homecoming for those of us who have spent hundreds of hours traversing its dark and unforgiving landscapes since the base game launched back in 2023. The release of the Lord of Hatred expansion marks a significant step forward in the narrative that was originally set in motion during the initial campaign and furthered by the events of the Vesse...

An undisclosed number of employees have been laid off.
We have even more unfortunate news to share today. In addition to this week's layoffs and studio closures at Ubisoft and Sweet Bandits, layoffs have also hit Torn Banner Studios and IllFonic.
Torn Banner Studios is perhaps best known for their work on the two Chivalry titles and their Early Access release of No More Room in Hell 2. Yesterday, a message was shared on LinkedIn by CEO and creative director Steve Piggott...
Yesterday, Ubisoft announced that they were shuttering two of its development studios and laying off 277 employees. Sadly, those layoffs weren't the only ones that hit the gaming industry yesterday as Deceive Inc. developer, Sweet Bandits, also announced their own studio closure.
A post was made to the official Deceive Inc. forums yesterday morning announcing that the "Sweet Bandits team is no more."

Ubisoft Shutting Down San Francisco and Osaka Studios, Major Layoffs Expected
Nearly 300 employees are being laid off.
Today, Ubisoft announced that they are shutting down their online competitive shooter XDefiant. As a result of this shutdown, Ubisoft is also shutting down the XDefiant production studios in San Francisco and Osaka. Some layoffs will also take place in their Sydney location. This will lead to about 277 employees losing their jobs. Half of the XDefiant team will be moved to other roles elsewhere within Ubisoft.
Ubisoft announced today that they are pulling XDefiant starting today, December 3, 2024. They say that this process will prevent new downloads, player registrations, and purchases from being made. They say that everyone that purchased the Ultimate Founders Pack will be issued a full refund. Anybody that made VC and DLC purchases since November 3, 2024 will also get full refunds.
The Indiana Jones and the Great Circle PC Requirements are Insane
Older hardware need not apply.
The PC system requirements for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle were finally revealed and it's definitely not great news for anybody on older hardware. The system requirements are pretty close to what I would consider to be insane. The game apparently features zero support for GPUs that predate hardware accelerated ray tracing. The CPU requirements aren't much better either, with only the minimum requirements suggesting a CPU below a Ryzen 7 7700....
Fallout 76 players continue to eat good thanks to another free content update being released for the online multiplayer shooter. The free update is called Gleaming Depths and it takes players underground into a former Enclave lab "where cutting-edge research on Ultracite once promised to reshape Appalachia."

GOG says they'll still preserve them forever anyway.
Blizzard is pulling the original versions of Warcraft and Warcraft 2 from GOG. This comes a very short time after remasters for Warcraft were released by Blizzard as part of their 30th anniversary event.
GOG says that both Warcraft and Warcraft 2 will be pulled from purchase at GOG on December 13. That date is exactly one month after Blizzard released the remasters of these two games on their own Battle.net client....
Was 2025 a big year for game completions for you, or were you more of a "stick to one never-ending, live-service game for the entire year" sort of player?
For this, you can take whatever definition you want as a game "completion." Beat the main story? Earned 100% of the game's achievements? Or simply played enough that you're satisfied with what you accomplished and have no plans to return any time...
