  • New CS Linux Install, can't see server...

I have just done a new cs server install on linux. The downloads went fine and the update ran without errors. I have ports 1200, 27000-27015 and 27020-27039 opened and forwarded in my router (according to portforward.com).

When I try to run the server for the first time, it looks like this:

Ok, I my local lan ip and get:
    Code:
    sh-3.1$ ./hlds_run -game cstrike +maxplayers 16 +map de_dust +mapchangecfgfile "server.cfg" +ip 192.168.1.4
    Auto detecting CPU
    Using Pentium II Optimised binary.
    Auto-restarting the server on crash

    Console initialized.
    scandir failed:/home/cs1/hlds_l/./platform/SAVE
    Protocol version 47
    Exe version 1.1.2.5/Stdio (cstrike)
    Exe build: 20:02:49 Oct 24 2006 (3651)

    NET_SendPacket ERROR: Operation not permitted
Could not establish connection to Steam servers.

I don't know what the NET_SendPacket ERROR means. I see it can't establish a connection to the Steam servers.

I also tried it with the ip address of my router and got a FATAL ERROR:
    Code:
    sh-3.1$ ./hlds_run -game cstrike +maxplayers 16 +map de_dust +mapchangecfgfile "server.cfg" +ip 24.253.x.x
    Auto detecting CPU

Add "-debug" to the ./hlds_run command line to generate a debug.log to help with solving this problem

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If the solution is simple, post it anyway. It might help someone else out in the future.

I had configured my Linksys router, but forgot about the built-in linux firewall. Once I opened up those ports, it worked.

At least I think its working, I still don't know if I can be seen from outside servers yet, still trying to confirm that...

Re: New CS Linux Install, can't see server...

Is there anyway you can try running the server on windows to be sure port forwarding effectively worked?
I'm not sure on the implications of using a virtual machine, but recently I had an ET server running on a virtual machine and I could access it from the game in windows.

To be clear, what error are you getting?
