Unity Changes Terms Once More, Commits to 'Being an Open Platform'

Unity has had a real interesting seven days. Last week, SpatialOS from developer Improbable was apparently barred from being used within Unity development. SpatialOS is a robust tool that many Unity developers use to add multiplayer to their games. For a time, Unity's new Terms, which went live in early December but were only clarified to Improbable last week, actually affected games that were already released. This led to some quick back and forths between Improbable and Unity through their respective sites. It all seemed to quiet down when Improbable and Epic Games formed a joint $25...

EA Cancels Yet Another Star Wars Game (Update)

A headline like "EA Cancels Another Star Wars Game" feels like they're a dime a dozen these days. I think EA may have cancelled as many Star Wars games as they have closed studios at this point. Here we are again and here EA is with another cancelled EA game on their hands. This time, the development studio has decided to cancel its open-world Star Wars game that EA Vancouver had been working on. Prior to EA Vancouver working on this title, it was in development from Visceral Games. Of course, EA shut down Visceral Games back in 2017. In fact, when Visceral was working on the game it wasn't an open-world title but rather a more linear action-adventure game that was being directed by...

Review: Last Year: The Nightmare (PC)

A solid asymmetrical survival-horror game that's light on content.

Asymmetrical multiplayer games have been going steady for the past few years now. Some of the biggest games in that particular genre include the long departed Evolve, the still ongoing Dead by Daylight, and even Friday the 13th if you're into that sort of thing. You can now add in Last Year: The Nightmare to the mix as it combines 5 versus 1 multiplayer with elements of survival-horror. As with those other titles, Last Year places one player in the shoes of a bloodthirsty murderer while the rest of the players play as one of five teenagers trying to survive and escape. What it delivers is a well-crafted gameplay experience that ultimately comes up short on content. Last Year: The Nightmare relies on a number of tried and true horror movie clichés. The group of teenagers include the nerdy kid, the popular girl, a stereotypical jock, and m...

Jump Force Open Beta Begins January 18

Come January 18th, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners will get to try out Jump Force in what Bandai Namco is calling an "open beta weekend." Be it a true beta or a "demo" is besides the point because what really matters is that you will finally get to test drive the fighting game that we have been passing along news about now for months.

Here's how it's going to go down. First off, there will be four separate three-hour long sessions:

Secondly? Well, that's kind of it. Just make sure you download the demo and you can play during...

Bungie Ditches Activision, Acquires Rights to Destiny

Moving forward, all future Destiny titles will be self-published by Bungie. I guess even Activision had to tap out after the latest Destiny 2 puzzle, eh?

After eight years, Bungie and Activision are parting ways and with it so does Activision's control over the Destiny franchise. Bungie announced today that they are acquiring publishing rights to their popular shooter.

Mere moments ago, Bungie made the announcement on their website in an aptly named news entry called "Our Destiny."

Bungie continues on to say that they will...

Hitman Developer IO Interactive is Opening Second Studio

Hitman 2 developer IO Interactive is opening a second studio that will allow the developer to focus on Hitman and new franchises.

Earlier today, IO Interactive announced that they are opening a new studio in Malmö, Sweden. This new studio will help the main studio with ongoing development of the Hitman series, including Hitman 2. It will also allow the studio the freedom to work on new franchises for the future. That's not too shabby for a development studio that was let go from Square Enix only two years back in 2017. IO Interactive retained the rights to the Hitman IP. Since then, IO Interactive developed and released ...

A Bunch of Sword Art Online News and Something About VRMMORPG

There was just no way I would have been able to fit everything that there is to talk about with this one if I wasn't being a bit cheeky with the headline. Bandai Namco has passed along word to us today that Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization - Deluxe Edition is coming to the Nintendo Switch this Spring.

In addition to that, the very same email says that both Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet - Dissonance of the Nexus Expansion and Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet - Complete Edition will be released digitally for the PC via Steam, the PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on January 18,...

Black Desert Online's Battle Royale Mode Enters Early Access Today

The new battle royale mode for Black Desert Online entered into early access today. After today's regular maintenance period, players of the popular MMORPG will get their first taste of the Shadow Arena. Access is granted to everyone that owns the game and those that are making use of the game's 7-day free trial.

The tests will be set at specific times and will have limited capacity. You're apparently supposed to check out the Black Desert Online site and associated social media channels for when those play times will take place because they didn't inform us about them in...

'Obey Me' Brings a Holy War to Consoles and PC Later this Year

Blowfish Studios and Error 404 Game Studios are working on Obey Me, a new "cooperative holypunk brawler" that is targeting a Q3 2019 release for PS4, XB1, Switch, and PC.

Obey Me dives into the notion that angels and demons are waging an ongoing war that humans can't see. And just like with other similar stories, the fate of all mankind hangs in the balance. This story is actually expanded upon by a series of graphic novels from Dynamite Comics. It features work from Marvel vet Ben Herrera (X-Men and Spider-Man covers). The first issue will be released in March with five...

The Walking Dead: The Final Season Episode 3 'Broken Toys' Out Now

The third episode for The Walking Dead: The Final Season is now available to download and play via the Epic Games Store (affiliate link, non-affiliate link), the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. This is, of course, all made possible by the efforts and funding from Skybound Games and Epic Games.

The fourth episode for The Walking Dead: The FInal Season will be released on March 26, 2019.

I think we already put up the launch trailer about a week ago, but it probably doesn't hurt to put it up again. And no, I have absolutely no idea if these last two episodes will appear on any other digital distribution platform for the PC. I would sugg...

This four-player co-op title is based off of the movie of the same name and is slated to arrive later this year on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. In addition to the screenshots, seen below, you can get a look at some new key art, seen above.

Tera Adds New PvP Battleground and Gear Sets in 'Shore Hold' Update

The PC release of TERA has some new PvP focused content available today. The latest "Shore Hold" update adds in a new PvP Battleground in addition to some new gear sets for their action leaning MMORPG.

This new battleground is a 7v7 affair that they're appropriately calling Shore Hold. The battleground includes "shorter resurrection times, buff-generating mana stones, and other exciting features." There are also not one but three new gear sets for PvP players to earn and wear. In addition, a PvE Training Ground area was added with a DPS meter that allows...

  • Elder Scrolls Online Announces Elsweyr Expansion and 'Season of the Dragon' Storyline

It looks like the cat is out of the bag when it comes to the next year for content coming to The Elder Scrolls Online. Earlier today, the Elsweyr expansion was announced alongside the "Season of the Dragon" which promises to continue throughout the year.

I was provided with the highlights from Bethesda, so let's first take a look at those.

That's a fairly succinct list, but let's dive in a bit deeper into Elsweyr. Elsweyr is slated to launch on the PC, Mac, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on June 4. You are already able to pre-order the game...

Building a Better TGN Part 2 - Overview of New and Returning Features
    Shawn Zipay

Last week I kind of detailed the process of what it took to even get the site up and running following the upgrade to vBulletin 5.4.5 from 4.2.1. Today, I'll go over some of the new features for all of you members out there, plus some of the more forward facing changes made to the site. I'll try to make this short and a bit more concise than last week's entry. Custom StyleThe most obvious thing you will notice when visiting the site is the current site design. I worked for a long time customizing a site design from one of the default vBulletin designs. Customizations include, but are not limited to:...

Building a Better TGN Part 1 - Banks and Technical Issues
    Shawn Zipay
As you have probably noticed by now, Total Gaming Network is looking a little bit different than what it was only about a month ago. We are now on the latest version of vBulletin, which just happens to be 5.4.5. We are also on a far more up-to-date version of PHP. We are also on some better server hardware than we were previously. The Boring Technical StuffThis particular version of vBulletin (5.4.5) came out roughly a month ago. We were previously on vBulletin 4.2.1, a release that initially came out in mid-2013. This equates to roughly 5-6 yea...
