Cyan Worlds shared the first official gameplay footage of the upcoming remake of Riven: The Sequel to Myst. We get a look at the new ways in which you will explore and simply move about the variety of locations not seen since the original 1997 release.
Riven uses Unreal Engine 5 with environments rebuilt from the ground up. Riven will be playable in both traditional "2D" gameplay on a monitor or TV, or you can play through it in VR. No matter how you decide to play it, Riven will be available later in 2024 for PC and Macs with Apple silicon.
Cyan Worlds also just announced that Shannon Woodward (Dina in The Last of Us Part 2, Elsie in Westworld) and Ronan Farrow (From Up on Poppy Hill, The Wind Rises) will portray two new characters that were not part of the original game. These two will be featured in an expanded game section new to the remake. Actor and comedian Lauren Gamiel (off-Broadway play Lighthouse) provides voice-over and motion capture for Catherine. Russell Webster performs motion capture for Gehn. Rand Miller (CEO and co-founder of Cyan Worlds) reprises his role as Atrus.
The game will also preserve original voice performances by John Keston (Gehn), Christine Steel (Nelah), Vicente Ramos (Gehn's guard), and Kate Vita (Keta), with John Keston’s performance in particular serving as an homage to the late actor who brought Gehn to life in the original Riven and sadly passed away in 2020. John is beloved in the Myst and Riven communities, and Cyan Worlds hopes the game’s remake will introduce a new generation of gamers to his historic performance.
