Amnesia: The Bunker Review (PC)
Frictional Games plays it safe. Perhaps a little too safe.
Frictional Games is known for crafting some of the most memorable horror game experiences over the past 15 years. They began with the Prenumbra series, a trio of titles that gave us our first taste of Frictional's penchant for blending survival horror with physics-based environmental puzzles. The studio then saw a spike in popularity with their next release, Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Amnesia: The Dark Descent expanded upon the...

After Us Review (PS5)
After Us offers a glimpse of our future and a warning of things to come.
A gaming experience where you engage in thoughtful introspection, wordless encounters, and some platforming across Earth's many diverse locations to undo the devastation caused by global warming sounds like an intriguing idea on paper. Its execution in After Us, however, leaves quite a bit to be desired. Some awkward platforming, poor combat, and performance woes will ultimately leave you feeling a little less...

Redfall is Arkane's Worst Game Ever
It's also the worst "AAA" developed title in recent memory.
It was a struggle to finish Redfall. It was an absolute struggle thanks to performance issues, technical deficiencies, crashes, broken A.I., and uninspired quest design. It was the antithesis of fun and I pushed myself to complete the game out of pure spite.
Prior to playing Redfall, I saw Arkane as a studio that could do no wrong when it comes to their output. Dark Messiah of Might and Magic in 2006...

Latest Steam Beta Makes Major Overhaul to the In-game Overlay
Watch YouTube, take notes, chat, and more.
Valve just released a new beta update for Steam that includes a wealth of new features, updated old features, and some under the hood changes. While we don't typically write about updates released for the Steam Client Beta, this particular update had enough cool new features that it was worth a mention.
Right now, you can opt into the new beta for the Steam client that makes some drastic changes to the In-Game Overlay. Now, you...

UK Blocks Microsoft Activision Merger
The CMA claims the deal would harm cloud gaming.
Cloud gaming. Cloud gaming is the reason why the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in the UK voted to block the $69 billion deal that would see Microsoft taking over Activision Blizzard.
The decision didn't come down to concerns over Call of Duty exclusivity or anything that would make some measure of sense. No, it came down to the CMA being concerned that the deal would "undermine new and innovative" competition...

Final Review: We Happy Few
A fleeting Joy.
The other week, I put up a review in progress for We Happy Few. For the sake of simplicity, I left that intact below this "final" review section up top here. So, how did We Happy Few fare given the extra time I spent with it? Not well. Not well at all. As the hours continued on, the love affair I had with the game started to chip away. At first it was just a minor annoyance when I would run into issues like poor A.I., but it became harder and harder to ignore. T... -

Gabe Newell Still Cannot Say "Three" in New Dota 2 Mega-Kill Voice Pack
Valve revealed and released a Gabe Newell Mega-Kills pack for Dota 2. They showed off this video as part of their International coverage last night.
This pack is "free" to everybody that owns the Battle Pass. Get a look at the "behind the scenes" video below and then listen to every single one of his lines in the video below it.
It's pretty good. It's actually really damn good.

Today at Gamescom, Blizzard had a lovely presentation, which you can see in its entirety courtesy of Blizzplanet. But since this presentation video is mostly in German and of the "skaky cam" variety, you may want to pass on it and instead watch these direct feed videos of the new content that was announced. MapleStory 2 Coming this October with a Battle Royale Mode
People love MapleStory. I've never played this MMORPG but I'm assuming from its name that it's a mix of tree or syrup lovers and those who enjoy a good story.
Whatever the case really is, Nexon America announced today that Ocotber 1 is the launch date for MapleStory 2. More maples, more stories. A beta is currently underway for the game. Plus, and get ready for this one, there will be a stand alone version of MapleStory 2's battle royale mode. There will be a little taste of th... -

No New Assassin's Creed Game Planned for 2019 as Ubisoft Plans Long-Term Support for Odyssey
According to Yves Guillemot, as quoted by GameSpot, there will not be a new Assassin's Creed game coming in 2019.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot delivered this news earlier at Gamescom.
"On Assassin's, we had a game [in 2018] and we have one this year, but we are not going to have a full-fledged Assassin's next year. It's just because the team were working separately, so we have two games now, one year after the other. But next year you're not going to have a fully fledged... -

This is Your First Look at The Surge 2 Gameplay
Some good news today for those wanting a piping hot injection of all new gameplay footage for The Surge 2. Focus Home Interactive and Deck 13 provide the first look at what they're calling "pre-alpha" gameplay for the sci-fi action RPG.
It's not particularly long, but it's something. The trailer shows off the Park sector, which is located in the middle of a city that has been "ravaged by the events of The Surge."
Devious mercenaries called The Hunters roam the artificial,... -

Reports of "Weak" Battlefield 5 Pre-Orders Attributed to Lack of Informative Sources from Analyst
Just a week ago, a number of news stories popped up about weak pre-order sales figures for Battlefield V. We were also among the many outlets that put up at least one story about this. Many of us even went so far as to say that EA's decision to sandwich Battlefield V's release between the year's two most anticipated titles were not doing the game any favors. And while it's still probably true that the earlier lack of marketing and the release date aren't really doing Battlefield 5 any favor...

Hunt: Showdown Announced for Xbox Game Preview
Crytek and Microsoft are teaming up to bring Hunt: Showdown, the PvPvPvPvPvE online game, to an even larger audience. This partnership will see Hunt: Showdown hitting the Xbox Game Preview program soon. How soon? I uh... I don't really know.
See, details are kind of light on this one. All I know is that Hunt: Showdown will hit the Game Preview program.
Hunt: Showdown is a competitive first-person bounty hunting game that combines the thrill of first-person shooters and... -

Shenmue 3 Release Date Announced Alongside a New Trailer
The release date for Shenmue III was announced today as Gamescom 2018 officially kicked off. Deep Silver and YS Net Inc. announced that Shenmue III will release on August 27, 2019 for the PlayStation 4 and PC.
They even showed off a new trailer to go along with this announcement.
Shenmue III sees the continuation of the beloved epic saga which won fans over with its distinct storytelling and immersive atmosphere. In Shenmue III, players will aide teenage martial artist... -

Monthly Poll

-
by Shawn ZipayIt's a fairly stacked month.
May and into June is usually when the mid-year lull begins for new game releases. Yet here we are in June 2023 and there are some big games either already out or coming out in the weeks ahead.
There are several games coming out this month, many of which you might call "bangers" that you might just happen to have your eye on. This month's poll is simple and probably a retread of a poll (or several) that have been done in the past....Street Fighter 60%0Amnesia: The Bunker0%0Diablo 450.00%1Aliens: Dark Descent0%0Final Fantasy 16100.00%2AEW Fight Forever0%0Crash Team Rumble0%0-
