Review: Judgment (PS4)

The same, but different.

Sega, specifically the Yakuza team at Sega, are really damn good at what they do. The primarily Japanese developer has been on a roll with their stellar Yakuza-focused releases this generation that include Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami and Kiwami 2, and Yakuza 6. All of these titles have received high praise both from myself and from other media outlets these past few years.

It should then come as no surprise that the level of quality found in those titles does not take any sort of hit with the team's latest release, Judgment. Make no mistake about...

EA Attempts to Distance Themselves from 'Loot Boxes' by Calling them 'Surprise Mechanics'

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it must be a surprise mechanic.

EA and loot boxes, loot boxes and EA. In some people's minds, there is no better pairing save for "gamers" and "rising up." For the past several years now, the studio has been repeatedly under fire for how they included loot boxes in many of their titles. They have included loot box mechanics in games like Madden with their Madden Ultimate Team card packs, FIFA with the similar Ultimate Team mode, Battlefield 1, and perhaps most notably, Star Wars Battlefront 2.

In fact,...

Chivalry 2 Announced as Epic Games Store Timed Exclusive

Another Tripwire published title revealed as an EGS timed-exclusive.

The Chivalry series is making a comeback at what could be a very interesting time. Despite fierce competition from Mordhau, Torn Banner Studios announced that they are working on Chivalry 2. It will once again be a multiplayer first-person "slasher" set in medieval battlefields. The game, published by Tripwire Interactive, is targeting a 2020 release on the Epic Games Store.

  • Blizzard Introduces $60 Automatic Level 90 Boost in World of Warcraft

Blizzard Introduces $60 Automatic Level 90 Boost in World of Warcraft

Why pay some stranger a lot of money to level your World of Warcraft characters, when you can pay Blizzard just $60 to get you to level 90 immediately!

This may or may not be the final price. WoW Insider speculates that this wasn't even supposed to be live yet since pre-orders were not yet live. Thus, there is a small chance that this isn't the final price. However, the ability to purchase the automatic boost was apparently live on a number of servers, so make of that what you will.

  • Final Fantasy 7 Remake Would Take Longer to Develop than the Final Fantasy 13 Trilogy

In speaking with Joystiq, Final Fantasy producer, Yoshinori Kitase, said that while he would love to do an HD version of Final Fantasy 7, the work load would be more than the entire Final Fantasy 13 trilogy.

Keeping in mind that the trilogy of Final Fantasy 13 games took over 10 years to develop and release and you should have a better idea of how big of a task it would be to remake Final Fantasy 7 with modern visuals and high definition audio.
"I still think it's going to be a very challenging task," Kitase said, before reiterating that remastering the PS2 games was a big enough challenge, and that the gap between today's tech and the

  • A Work Around for the 'Black Screen' Bug for Xbox One Users After Latest Update

Though the latest Xbox One update brought about some much needed new functionality to the system, it also brought about a curious issue that many gamers are experiencing. Some are reporting that after they turn their system on, they are met with only a blank, black screen.

Microsoft is aware of the issue and have already provided an easy work around.
Yes, it's just that easy to fix. Hold the power button down for 10 seconds and reboot your Xbox One. That should fix the issue. Besides the dreaded black screen bug, the update that came out on February 15 includes a battery power indicator f...

  • Unofficial Gameplay Footage for The Order: 1886

Unofficial Gameplay Footage for The Order: 1886

Here is just the briefest glimpses of gameplay from The Order: 1886. You've already seen two new non-gameplay trailers today so why not see how the game looks in action. The footage is not direct from Sony or Ready at Dawn and may also not be direct feed either (crackling sound in places, cuts, etc.).

It's not very telling from the footage shown if it's all narrow corridors and Telltale style quick time events, so keep your fingers crossed that the full game isn't merely Gears of War in the Victorian era.

New Trailers for the PS4 Exclusive - The Order: 1886

A couple of new trailers have come out today for the PlayStation 4 exclusive, The Order: 1886. Unfortunately, neither of them actually show any gameplay, but we'll get back to that in the next news post.

The next trailer seems like a bit of a "Cliff's Notes" version of the announcement trailer from E3 2012. Just for the hell of it, we'll include it anyway.

The Order: 1886 introduces players to a unique vision of Victorian-Era London where Man uses advanced technology to battle a powerful and ancient foe. As a member of an elite order of knights, join a centuries-old war that will

  • PlayStation 4 has Sold over 5.3 Million Units to Date

PlayStation 4 has Sold over 5.3 Million Units to Date

As of February 8, the PlayStation 4 has already surpassed 5.3 million units sold throughout North America, Latin America, Europe, and a few parts of Asia. That figure is just Sony's estimate on sell-through to the end consumer, so the actual number of units sold to retailers may be a bit higher.

Though I can't imagine the number would be that much higher since it's still next to impossible to find a PlayStation 4 in stock anywhere, at least here in the States. Last month, sales of the PS4 were at 4.2 million and later this week, the system will launch in Japan. If Sony can start meeting...

Battlefield 4 Free Handgun Shortcut is Available Now

The shortcut package that lets you unlock every pistol in Battlefield 4 is now available through Origin.

It should show the price as being $0, a savings of 100% from its normal price of $4.99 (USD). It includes the following unlocks: M9, QSZ-92, MP443, SHORTY 12G, G18, FN57, M1911, 93R, CZ-75, .44 MAGNUM, and Compact 45.

Unless I'm remembering incorrectly, there should still be shortcut kits for the DMRs and shotguns coming soon.
