Turns Out Announcing Tomb Raider Remasters Without Obtaining Permission is a Bad Idea
About two weeks ago, a tweet went out by realtech VR saying that they were working on remastered versions of the first three Tomb Raider games. They said that these remasters would be coming to Steam and would be free updates to those who own the originals. It was even going to have a bunch of visual improvements such as SSAO, up to 16x AA (though that's arguably quite generic in this day and age), and 60fps gameplay (original game was 30fps). Visual overhauls and OpenVR support on the PC? ... -

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is Reportedly Real and Won't Include Multiplayer
Two separate sources have independently confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is indeed real. Both of these sources have also said that Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is only the single player component from the original game.
Sources have supplied this information to Charlie Intel and (presumably) other sources have separately supplied this information to Eurogamer. That's two sites and probably two sources that are making this claim. It may also explain why... -

More Real Time Ray Tracing Demos from Epic Games and Futuremark
Fresh out of GDC 2018 come a few more tech demos showing off real time ray tracing technologies. These come just a day after Microsoft announced DirectX Raytracing along with support promised from Nvidia and AMD.
First up is a tech demo from Epic Games. It's Star Wars themed and looks stunning, as you would expect. There is a catch, but we'll get to that after the video.
During today’s “State of Unreal” opening session at the Game Developers Conference (GDC),... -

Valve Discusses Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Negev Changes
In a blog posting that went up last night, Valve started to detail some of the changes and thoughts they have in mind for the Negev in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Some of these changes are already being tested as part of a beta update for CS:GO but they say that the changes, barring any issues, will go live soon. Their main focus right now is making the Negev a weapon that can provide adequate suppression in the heat of a battle.
At this point it’s clear that the upside of... -

A Big Steam Client Update was Just Released
Valve pushed out a rather beefy update to the Steam client. No, there aren't really any visual or layout changes in this update, but it does have a lot of improvements for the client for those across all platforms that Steam is available on.
Changes for Steam client for March 21, 2018
General • Reduced CPU usage of Steam when redrawing the UI, such as when the mouse is moved back and forth over part of the Library view • Improved behavior when re-installing from retail... -

Vivendi Sells Entire Stake in Ubisoft, Tencent Takes Five Percent
Back in October 2015, Vivendi began what appeared to be a takeover of Ubisoft when they purchased 10% of all Ubisoft's stocks. In June 2016, Vivendi upped their ownership to a bit over 20%. As of April 2017, Vivendi owned 25% of Ubisoft and were allegedly eyeing a takeover of the company late in 2017. Cut to the present, March 2018, and Vivendi has sold off all of their stock in Ubisoft, which represented 27.3% of Ubisoft's capital. The main buyer was Guillemot Brothers SE, meaning tha... -

Epic Freely Releases Paragon Assets Valued at $12 Million
In January, Epic Games decided to shut down their action-MOBA title Paragon. The obvious reason being that they wanted to shift more attention on to Fortnite Battle Royale. Even though it's gone, Paragon won't soon be forgotten because Epic just released assets from the game that have been valued at $12 million (USD).
The $12 million worth of Paragon assets have been released for free. That means that anybody using Unreal Engine 4 for development purposes can make use of any... -

GDC 2018: Microsoft Announces DirectX Raytracing
Though the adoption of dedicated DirectX 12 games is near non-existent, that hasn't stopped companies like Microsoft from adding in new features and APIs. The latest announcement came today in the form of a new API dedicated to facilitating the creation of real-time ray tracing.
This is a fairly simplified explanation from Wikipedia.
Optical ray tracing describes a method for producing visual images constructed in 3D computer graphics environments, with more photorealism... -

New Behind the Scenes Video for OVERKILL's The Walking Dead
A new behind the scenes video from Starbreeze, Skybound Entertainment, 505 Games, and Overkill takes a fresh look at some decidedly unfresh flesh in OVERKILL's The Walking Dead. The video takes a deep dive into the creation of last December's cinematic teaser trailer. The trailer, created by Goodbye Kansas Studios, showed off the game's first playable character: Aidan.
Watch as the team goes in-depth on the creative and technical process to define Aidan’s lifelike persona and establish... -

Sega Confirms New Sonic Racing Game; Sonic Mania Plus Announced
On their own, each of these would make for a really short news post. Together, however, they make for one grand news post that any Sonic fan should be excited for. Yesterday, Sega announced that Sonic Mania would be getting a special re-release as Sonic Mania Plus.
This release will include the original Sonic Mania game, plus Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel added as playable characters, a new Encore mode, a four-player competition mode, special holographic...
