Valve Finally Shows Off New Steam UI Overhaul

An update to the Steam user interface and library has been in the works at Valve for years now. Today, the company finally feels comfortable enough to show off their Steam UI overhaul and did just that during a presentation at GDC 2019. I'd like to first thank Game Informer and PC Gamer (and again) for a lot of the information and screenshots you'll see below.

First up, let's talk about the changes coming to how your Library will look and function with this new update. The Friends list is now integrated into a column on the right side. No idea if this is an optional...

The Outer Worlds, Remedy's Control, Detroit: Become Human, and More Announced as Epic Games Store Timed Exclusives

As part of today's GDC presentation, Epic Games announced a number of timed exclusives that are coming first to the Epic Games Store. Among these games are The Outer Worlds, Control from Remedy Entertainment, and even some PlayStation 4 exclusives like Detroit: Become Human from Quantic Dream.

Some of these titles, such as The Outer Worlds, will also appear on the Microsoft Store for Windows 10. I guess this just lends more confirmation that Epic is less about purchasing exclusives and more about simply paying companies to keep their games off of Steam. Consumers should not...

System Shock 3 GDC Teaser

As part of the Unity keynote at GDC 2019, a new teaser trailer for System Shock 3 was shown off. I suppose that also confirms that System Shock 3 is being built on Unity. I think that was already known prior to this? Perhaps not.

The game is currently in development from OtherSide Entertainment. A release date for the horror title is not yet known. ...

Nvidia Announces Real-time Ray Tracing for Older GTX Cards

Nvidia just announced today that they are bringing real-time ray tracing to their GTX lineup of cards. This support will begin with a driver update currently slated for some time in April.

Get ready to have your framerates destroyed. Think about it this way: Nvidia's RTX cards have special hardware that is dedicated to handling the load of real-time ray tracing. Even with this special hardware, enabling real-time ray tracing still destroys framerates on these new cards.

Now they're going to add support for it on to their older cards? It will certainly make your...

Epic Games Launcher Allegedly Scrapes Local Steam Data Prior to Granting Consent, Epic Responds

Earlier today, Reddit user PhoenixPoint and ResetEra member Madjoki found out that the Epic Games Launcher may be collecting your Steam history at startup. As part of their investigation, they found that at startup, the Epic Games Launcher searches your local computer for a Steam install. If it finds that Steam is installed, it then apparently proceeds to pull a list of files typically stored in your Steam Cloud. This data includes game saves for all users that have logged in to Steam on your computer.

Madjoki also found that it pulls a list of your Steam friends and their name history....

    Steam Surpasses 65 Million Accounts

Valve announced today that Steam has surpassed 65 million total user accounts. That is a 30% increase in growth over the previous 12 months.
Looking ahead to 2014, Valve looks to expand Steam's services and offerings to gamers and developers by holding the Steam Developer Days in Seattle, WA this January and rolling out the recently announced Steam Machines with a variety of hardware partners later in the year. "The main goal of Steam has always been to increase the quality of the user's experience by reducing the distance between content creators and their audience," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. "As the platfor

FXAA Ruins Texture Quality in Battlefield 4

We already know how FXAA use tends to blur textures in games while simultaneously serving as a quick method of AA. However, it seems as though FXAA use in Battlefield 4 blurs textures more noticeably than in any other game.

HardOCP suggest turning the "Antialiasing Post" setting to "Off" in order to fix the blurred texture issue. The other AA settings in the game should be ok to adjust to your own tastes, just leave Antialiasing Post "off."

Microsoft Must Really Like the 'Xbox Huge' Meme

So, Microsoft made another giant Xbox, this time it's a giant Xbox One. Unlike the previous large console of theirs, there is only one of this One and it's in Vancouver. O Canada, what are you doing up there? It's said to be 40 feet long and 20 feet wide. Microsoft has hinted that the console will "unlock" after people "pledge" their gamertags and/or souls. Gamers can pledge their tags in person, online, or from the Xbox 360 dashboard. I'm going assume this is for residents of Canada only, but I have no idea. Prizes include Xbox One consoles and a trip to Toronto for the system's launch. (via ...

First Titanfall is Exclusive to Xbox and PC, Vince Zampella is Not Happy

Sorry hopeful PlayStation 4 owners, it looks as though Titanfall from Respawn Entertainment won't be headed to your platform. EA has stated that the game will remain exclusive to the PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One for the entirety of its life.

EA CFO, Blake Jorgensen, said this during today's financial call for EA.
"In the case of Titanfall, it's a brand new IP and it's exclusive only for the life of the title on Xbox One and Xbox 360 and PC."

Before you get upset with Respawn, here is what Respawn Entertainment's Vince Zampella had to say about this matter.
Ho boy. Yes, it looks as though h...
