Alan Wake 2 was announced at The Game Awards last night. A brief teaser trailer was shown that features Alan in some familiar locations such as New York City along with the first game's Pacific Northwest locale. The trailer also says that Alan Wake 2 will be out some time in 2023 at the earliest. It is in development for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC exclusively for the Epic Games Store.

Remedy creative director and OG face of Max Payne, Sam Lake, conducted a brief interview at The Game Awards with Geoff Keighley. Lake says that Alan Wake 2 will be Remedy's first ever survival horror game. He explains a bit on this choice in a new PlayStation Blog post.

Whereas the first Alan Wake had horror elements in it, it was an action game. Alan Wake 2 is Remedy’s first survival horror game. Our take on the genre. Our opportunity to truly connect the gameplay and the story. It is a deep, layered mystery. So, Alan Wake 2 confirmed and coming in 2023 presented by Epic Games Publishing. Thank you, our long-standing fans, this is what you have been waiting for, and welcome to those who are just discovering Alan Wake’s story.
The first Alan Wake came out initially on the Xbox 360 in 2010. Alan Wake was a central focus of the Control's second expansion named AWE. A remastered release of Alan Wake was released just this year in October. Both the remaster and Alan Wake 2 were part of a two-game publishing deal between Epic Games and Remedy. I would not expect to see Alan Wake 2 on anything other than the Epic Games Store.

Depending on how it turns out this would be the first time i use the Epic store, i don't mind using other launchers if it's for first party titles they have every right to be exclusive to their own platform, as much as i prefer people have choice, and this is basically a first party title.

Epic, I don't mind, but I'd rather see another Max Payne. Yeah, yeah, Ain't gonna happen.
