Epic Games sure is on a roll this week. It's not a good roll, but it is a roll nonetheless. Yesterday, we shared a story about how Epic Games developers are being forced to use AI across all areas of game development. Under this new initiative at Epic, actual developers will do nothing beyond overseeing the code that Claude spits out. The push for "AI first" is so strong at Epic that the studio had to delay a game they were working on for Disney.
Just a day later, Epic Games is at it again. The Fortnite studio just announced they vibe coded a new Epic Games Launcher. I'm not exaggerating here; they literally said that they vibe coded the entire thing in today's announcement.
We vibe coded the Epic Games Launcher to be faster than the other guy.

Is this bad boy faster? Yes. Will it have some bugs? Yes. Do we want to hear about them? Hell yes. When you find something that’s off, hit the “Send Feedback” button in the Launcher so we can tackle on the road to release. More deets on how to get started in the blog: epic.gm/egs-preview

Of course, the Epic Games Store is still woefully behind Steam in basically every way imaginable, so maybe they were able to "vibe code" some actually useful features to compete with Steam? No, not really.
Programming is hard. So, instead of doing that, we vibe coded a new Epic Games Launcher that’s way faster and more responsive than the current one, and has a new look.
This first release is light on features. Think of it as a speedboat and not a yacht! Though it does have advanced digital commerce technology such as a shopping cart.

It seems that this vibe coded storefront is as feature limited as the previous one. Their list of new features is actually quite pathetic:
Lighter, quicker and connected
- Get to the fun sooner. Faster cold starts, snappier navigation between library and store, and less load on your system while it runs in the background.
- Stay connected. Party up and voice chat with friends across Fortnite, Epic Games Store, and the Epic Games app.
Improved library and download experience
- Everything about your game in one view. Select any game to check its status, activity, details, and play controls on a dedicated page. Connect your PC libraries and see everything you own together within the Launcher.
- Customize your experience. Keep collections alongside your library, switch between grid and list views, and customize the top bar with your favorite games and apps.
- Find games faster. Search and filter as you type, with a cleaner layout that makes even large libraries easier to navigate.
- Monitor your downloads. Check download, read, and write speeds, as well as active, queued, scheduled and failed downloads in one place.

Maybe this AI vibe coded launcher is actually good when running it? That's also going to be a "lol, no" on that one too.
I can confirm that this client runs like shit.

Is there anything good in today's new announcement from Epic? Yes, actually! The company said that they are bringing Fortnite to Linux, and in order for that to happen, they are rebuilding Easy Anti-Cheat to work on Linux.
Fortnite will serve as the testbed for what they have dubbed "EAC Linux v2." Once they're satisfied with EAC's performance in Fortnite, they will make the anti-cheat available to more game developers.
Assuming that they aren't also vibe coding this huge overhaul for EAC, this could kick open the doors to far greater multiplayer game support on Linux systems, such as the Steam Deck. Unfortunately, with Epic's push for AI in everything they do these days, there's nothing to suggest that they aren't also vibe coding this new version of EAC.
