According to what "four industry sources" that are said to be familiar with Rockstar Games' and Take-Two's plans, the PC release of Grand Theft Auto 6 will arrive in Q1 2027. In other words, you can probably hop into the pastel-soaked streets of Vice City by March 2027, if that rumor is true.
This new rumor comes from GamesBeat and its quartet of "industry sources." The anonymous sources all say that Rockstar will release the PC version of Grand Theft Auto 6 only a few short months after its November 19 release on PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X|S.
The user base of Grand Theft Auto V skews largely towards console players, with PC players representing a small minority. With GTA VI’s production budget rumored to exceed $2 billion, Rockstar is highly incentivized to pull all the levers it can as fast as it can to monetize the game’s upcoming sequel — and PC players represent a significant expansion of the GTA VI audience.
There is currently no announcement for Grand Theft Auto Online for Grand Theft Auto 6. When Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on consoles this November, it will be a single-player only experience. It is not clear if the next GTA Online will be a separate, paid product, or a free update, or something else entirely.
The PC release of Grand Theft Auto 6 is still very much an unknown. This Q1 2027 rumor could be true now, but plans can always change. Additionally, there is no guarantee that we won't see another Grand Theft Auto 5 situation here. Grand Theft Auto 5 was initially released in 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. In November 2014, it came out for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It wasn't until April 2015 that it was released on PC.
It even took Rockstar and Take-Two about three years to release the "Expanded & Enhanced" content on PC. That version of Grand Theft Auto 5 was released for consoles in March 2022 and wasn't made available to PC players until March 2025.
And then there was also the case of Red Dead Redemption 2. After a year as a console-timed exclusive, it finally came to PC, but only as another timed exclusive on the Epic Games Store and Rockstar's own launcher. Thankfully, that timed exclusive was only for an additional month before hitting Steam.
Then, after Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar released Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition simultaneously on consoles and PC in November 2021. Except that the PC release was exclusive to Rockstar's own launcher. It didn't hit Steam and Epic Games Store until January 2023 and February 2023, respectively. Given how problematic that initial release was, a two-year wait might not have been the worst thing.
The recent track record doesn't paint a very promising picture for the PC release, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
