  • GOG Tells Cyberpunk 2077 Players Keep Save File Size Down to Avoid Corruption

The Cyberpunk hits just keep on coming.

Click image for larger version Name:	Save_damaged.png Views:	0 Size:	87.2 KB ID:	3507571Adding to the ever growing list of issues for Cyberpunk 2077 is one that could strike at any time and without warning. It has the potential to completely corrupt your save game with no way to recover it once it happens. This is a save game corruption that can, and will, happen to players if they allow their Cyberpunk 2077 save file to exceed 8MB in size.

This issue was initially reported as a problem across all platforms (Xbox, PlayStation, and PC), but may now just be a PC issue. There is no confirmation from CD Projekt Red either way on this, so all we have to go on right now is a notice that was put up by the folks at GOG.com. Of course, as GOG is owned by CD Projekt, this is about as close to an official response from the developers as we have seen to date.

Unfortunately the save is damaged and can't be recovered.

Please use an older save file to continue playing and try to keep a lower amount of items and crafting materials.

If you have used the item duplication glitch, please load a save file not affected by it.
The warning goes on to say that this save file size "might" be increased in a future patch. However, even if that does happen, the corrupted files will remain corrupted and unrecoverable.

How can you avoid encountering this issue? You will have to keep a lower number of items in your inventory. This includes weapons, gear, armor, and even crafting materials. If you have an excess of any of these items, either sell them or drop the items that you no longer want nor need.

If you are on PC and want to check the file size for yourself, you can find your save files at
    Code:
    %userprofile%\Saved Games\CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077
From there, feel free to sort those folders by date modified and go to the latest save directory. You're going to want to look how big the "sav.dat" file is. If it's under 8MB in size, you're fine. If it's at or near 8MB in size, it's time to quickly thin your inventory if you can still access your game.

20 hours in i'm at 3MB so i feel like you'd have to be doing an extreme kind of playthrough to get it to go that high, don't get me wrong it shouldn't happen at all, but collecting every item in the game probably isn't what most people are doing :P.

It's more than likely a lot of crafting going on. So you get the crafted items and all of the crafting materials and it adds up rather quickly, especially if you
      A) Specced into crafting to begin with and
      B) Used crafting to grind out money in the game, which has been quite common with people looking to get some spending cash in this game.

The crafting materials add to this MB total as well. But you're right, there shouldn't be a hard limit in place to begin with on save files.

86 hours, 4MB. I feel okayish about my saves, in that I'm hoping this will be fixed soon. That's after buying tons of crafting mats and crafting several items too. No dupes as such.

Got 3 endings done at 100 hours (honestly, a lot of those hours may have been the launcher being left up on Steam. Say what you like about the game ommissions, the bugs, the extremely poor console ports, but as a queer woman, the Judy story really hit me in the feels, AND i had fun playing. Got ~50-60 fps at 1440P with RTX Ultra, 2080Ti and 8700K .
