Adding to the ever growing list of issues for Cyberpunk 2077 is one that could strike at any time and without warning. It has the potential to completely corrupt your save game with no way to recover it once it happens. This is a save game corruption that can, and will, happen to players if they allow their Cyberpunk 2077 save file to exceed 8MB in size.
This issue was initially reported as a problem across all platforms (Xbox, PlayStation, and PC), but may now just be a PC issue. There is no confirmation from CD Projekt Red either way on this, so all we have to go on right now is a notice that was put up by the folks at GOG.com. Of course, as GOG is owned by CD Projekt, this is about as close to an official response from the developers as we have seen to date.
Unfortunately the save is damaged and can't be recovered.
Please use an older save file to continue playing and try to keep a lower amount of items and crafting materials.
If you have used the item duplication glitch, please load a save file not affected by it.

How can you avoid encountering this issue? You will have to keep a lower number of items in your inventory. This includes weapons, gear, armor, and even crafting materials. If you have an excess of any of these items, either sell them or drop the items that you no longer want nor need.
If you are on PC and want to check the file size for yourself, you can find your save files at
Code:
%userprofile%\Saved Games\CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077
A) Specced into crafting to begin with and
B) Used crafting to grind out money in the game, which has been quite common with people looking to get some spending cash in this game.
The crafting materials add to this MB total as well. But you're right, there shouldn't be a hard limit in place to begin with on save files.
