During a post-earnings Q&A session, Capcom revealed that they want to see Resident Evil 7 hit lifetime sales figures of 10 million units. Ten. Million. Units.

Let's put that into some sort of perspective for you.

From its launch in January through to March, Resident Evil 7 shipped 3.5 million units. This was already about 500,000 units short of their initial plan to sell 4 million units in that same span of time.

Right now, the best selling Resident Evil title is... If you said Resident Evil 4, you'd be wrong. It's actually Resident Evil 5. According to Capcom's own list of top sellers, Resident Evil 5 has sold "only" 7.2 million units to date. Resident Evil 6 is close behind at 6.8 million units sold.

Naturally, this list could be a bit misleading and may not include sales from multiple platforms. Capcom did say that total sales of Resident Evil 4, 5, and 6 "have each sold more than 7.5 to 10 million units cumulatively." This is a figure that includes multiple platforms and their numerous re-releases on different generations of consoles. You have to keep in mind that these milestones have taken years to reach. Hell, Resident Evil 4 alone came out over 12 years ago.

So maybe 10 million units for Resident Evil 7 is feasible but it may not hit that milestone until the PlayStation 6 rolls around.
