According to a new report from Kotaku, BioWare may be working hard on a complete overhaul for Anthem. According to their sources, this overhaul of the game has been coined "Anthem 2.0" or "Anthem Next."
As of right now, the team doesn't even know yet how this overhaul should be distributed. It seems as though BioWare is still trying to figure out if the updates should be released all at once or over a period of time. They are also apparently considering going the No Man's Sky route and releasing the updates as a series of themed updates.
However, while the team is thinking about the how to update aspect still, it seems as though they're more or less on the same page on what needs fixed. Everything. It's pretty much everything. Apparently the update is going to drastically overhaul mission structure, loot, progression, difficulty, and even the game world itself. One idea is to break the main game world up into sections. This would allow devs to tweak different sections without worrying about breaking the rest of the game world.
One source said that they are "looking at breaking up the need to go back to Fort Tarsis after every mission." They go on to say that they are trying to figure out "what a mission technically is. There was always a weird disconnect. (We're) trying to integrate the disparate parts of the game together."
It's even possible that this "Anthem Next" would be released as a brand new game. Though I assume that there would be some form of compensation given to current Anthem owners.
Kotaku's report goes on to say that "dozens if not hundreds" of BioWare developers are working on the Anthem overhaul. This includes staff from the Austin and Edmonton offices.
Anthem Next is obviously not the only project that BioWare is currently working on. They are obviously hard at work on Dragon Age 4. However, it seems as though a new Mass Effect game is in "very early development" at BioWare's Edmonton office under the direction of Mike Gamble. Hopefully this new Mass Effect won't include any tired faces.
