  • Destiny 2: Shadowkeep Delayed Until October 1, Cross-Save Arrives in August

It's only about a two week delay.

Bungie passed along some unfortunate news today. Both Destiny 2: Shadowkeep and the free-to-play launch of Destiny 2: New Light have been pushed back until October 1. The original release date for both of these was September 17, meaning that the delay is a mere two weeks. Yes, this also means that the Steam release of Destiny 2 has also been pushed back to October 1.

Bungie says that they "didn't make this decision lightly." In fact, they apologize to those who were already taking time off from work or school to play the release of Shadowkeep or work towards being among the first to complete the Raid Garden of Salvation.

Speaking of which, Bungie notes that the race for world's first on Raid Garden of Salvation will begin on Saturday, October 5. It's once again a weekend race and the "Contest" modifier will be active. That means that any group that completes the raid during that event will be eligible to pick up a very exclusive jacket, much like they could in prior race events.

This delay on Shadowkeep and New Light does mean that some current events are extended slightly. Moments of Triumph will now run through September 17. This gives Guardians three additional weeks to complete the challenges and unlock various Bungie Rewards. PvP players will be happy to hear that an additional Iron Banner will now be held the week of September 17 as well.

We also learned today that cross-save is coming online this month (August). This confirmation comes directly from Bungie Community Manager David "DeeJ" Dague.

A new "This Week at Bungie" also just went live. They provided some additional information about what the current state of the game is in addition to what they currently have planned for the upcoming 2.5.2.2 patch. These are just some of the things and not a full changelog.

    • Moments of Triumph has been extended through 9/17.
    • Gambit Prime and Reckoning weapon reward rates will be highly increased.
      • They will also have bad-luck protection to guarantee a drop after a set amount of runs.
    • Reckoning difficulty will be tuned to be more welcoming as you hunt for rewards.
    • BrayTech Schematics will no longer have a daily lockout and will give better chances toward weapons that players do not own.
    • Mountaintop and Wendigo GL3 pinnacle quests will become more accessible.
      • Specific quest objectives will be tuned based on player feedback
    • There will be multiple weeks of increased Valor and Infamy to look forward to in September.
      • Iron Banner will be accompanied by increased Valor in each event.
    • As the season comes to a close, Menagerie chests will become more rewarding as Calus sees fit.
    • On the week of Destiny 2 Update 2.5.2.2, we'll be hosting a Community Challenge of sorts. Stay tuned for more details.
Note: While Moments of Triumph has been extended, Solstice of Heroes will end on August 27. If you wish to complete all Moments of Triumph, be sure to earn your Legendary Solstice set and Masterwork one piece before that deadline.

Like the first game, we're left wanting more.

When Destiny first launched in late 2014, it was something special, almost magical. Bungie and Activision created a new franchise that let players explore parts of our Solar System from their couches, forge new friendships, take down massive enemies, and feel akin to comic book superheroes. However, that game was not without its faults. At launch, the game lacked much in the way of in-game story, opting instead to send the...
