There was just a massive drop of new Kingdom Hearts-related news out of D23, the "ultimate Disney fan event." We were given everything from a new Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer to a surprise announcement of a new Disney+ anime series.
The new Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer gives us our first look at one of the Disney-themed worlds you will get to explore. This first world is based on Pixar's Coco, the 2017 film that takes place mainly within the Land of the Dead and is heavily inspired by the Mexican Day of the Dead holiday.
This trailer also provides fans with the first release date window for Kingdom Hearts 4: Late 2027.
At D23, Disney also announced a 2029 release window for Coco 2.
Kingdom Hearts fans also got another surprise announcement today when Disney shared that they are working on a Kingdom Hearts anime for Disney+. This anime is in development alongside Square Enix and creator Tetsuya Nomura.
According to the announcement, the Kingdom Hearts anime will reimagine Kingdom Hearts with an entirely new story. This story "will expand on the universe of Kingdom Hearts while celebrating the characters that have captured the hearts of millions of fans around the world."
All of this news comes on the eve of the dedicated Kingdom Hearts panel taking place at D23. That panel, Deep Dive into Kingdom Hearts, is being held on August 15 at 7:30 PM ET. It is at this panel that Disney is expected to talk more about Kingdom Hearts 4. There will also be a special behind-the-scenes look at the development of the Kingdom Hearts titles.
It's now expected that there will be another, possibly longer, Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer at the August 15th panel. The panel will also include guests such as Haley Joel Osment (Sora), David Gallagher (Riku), and Renee Johnson (various Disney character voices).
Assuming there is no delay for Kingdom Hearts 4, it will be out in late 2027 for PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Switch 2, Epic, and Steam. Square previously shared a look at Kingdom Hearts 4 in June 2025 during a Nintendo Direct, with the game itself announced in 2022.
