  • Patch Incoming for The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered

It's all thanks to the Switch 2 release.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered was just released on the Nintendo Switch 2 today. The game has been available on other platforms since April 2025 but the patches have been severely lacking. The game released with rather significant performance issues on nearly all platforms, perhaps due to the fact that it's an Unreal Engine 5 coat of paint on top of Gamebryo for game logic. That's a real one-two punch of performance issues working in tandem there.

Near release, the game suffered from traversal stutters, plus general framerate issues, plus a degradation in performance the longer you played. A few of these issues were lessened though not really to a significant degree. This is also ignoring a good number of gameplay bugs that players have encountered, though a lot of these may be holdover from the original game release. Again, thank you Gamebryo.

Now, with today's release of the Nintendo Switch 2 version, a new patch may actually be on the horizon.

Bethesda broke their long silence on Oblivion Remastered and said that they looking at releasing a new patch for other non-Switch 2 platforms. This is thanks to "a number of optimizations" that the team made for the Switch 2 release that they will also bring over to platforms such as PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC.

Unfortunately, there is no release date for when this patch may drop. Fans are extremely hopeful that this update will be substantial given the roughly one-year of silence from Bethesda on a new update.

Early fan videos of the Switch 2 release of Oblivion Remastered show that it runs at an inconsistent 30 FPS. Fans may want to keep that in mind and keep expectations in check for this next update on other platforms.
