It's almost time to head back to where it all began, Wake Island. The iconic map that debuted with Battlefield 1942 will return (once again) to the franchise. Wake Island will release for Battlefield 6 as part of the upcoming Update 1.4.2.0.
Wake Island will be the second map added to Battlefield 6 that places a focus on naval warfare. If you aren't already familiar with the map, Wake Island features plenty of water, coastlines, and tropical forests for battles. The islands form a horseshoe shape in the Pacific Ocean. For Battlefield 6, the team did add quite a bit of extra area, a new point of interest, a Shipwreck, and also tweaked map boundaries, vehicle distribution, and cover placement.
The team at Battlefield Studios shared various comparisons between the Battlefield 5 version of Wake Island with the one coming to Battlefield 6. These comparisons are part of a larger developer insight blog talking about the new Wake Island release. It's here where we learn about some of the map's points of interest: Taussig Radar Station, Heel Point Barracks, Hanger One, Ammunition and Ordnance Depot, True Energy Hydrocarbons Fuel Storage, Toyoshima Docks, and the Shipwreck of the MV Cetus.
The hanger specifically remains one of the map's main points of focus. It features a mix of large outdoor and interior spaces. Armored vehicles will excel here while infantry will want to focus on utilizing mid-to-long range weapons.
