Doom was shown off to those in attendance at QuakeCon 2014 earlier this evening. Unfortunately, Bethesda will not release this footage to the public but we do have some details on what was shown off thanks to the multitude of live-Tweets about it from around the web.

Here are some fresh details presented in no particular order from what was gathered tonight.
  • The game will be called simply Doom, not Doom 4.
  • It's built off of id Tech 6.
  • It will support 1080p at 60fps, presumably for consoles.
  • The double barreled shotgun was shown off.
  • First mechanic: Demons. Mechanical, corrupt Hell Knights
  • Second mechanic: Guns. Normal guns, "big" guns
  • The game will focus on high speed movement and run-and-gun gameplay.
  • Some combat, however, will be hand-to-hand melee combat.
  • The gameplay demo featured a look at an area with gray steel walls, plenty of flames, and a "comically large" shotgun.
  • You will be able to stun enemies with a shot and then smash their face in with your boots.
  • Instead of finding keycards, you can now rip off the arm from a corpse and use it on a hand print scanner to open some doors.
  • Barrels still explode when shot.
  • "Light" parkour elements.
  • Double jumping was noticed.
  • Still colored doors and keys.
  • No health regeneration, health is restored from items enemies drop.
  • At one point during the demo, a demon ripped off the player's arms and beat him to death with them.
  • Another scene shows off a cave system on Mars.
  • The melee kills are "varied and fantastically gory."
  • The chainsaw is back.
  • A "huge variety of enemies (were) on display" from the small to giant "bullet-sponges."

The demo concluded with a look at the big demon shown off during the public teaser.

This was only a look at the game's single player component. They said that they're going to show off and talk about the "fast paced competitive multiplayer" at a later date. Many who saw it say that this is the proper doom sequel/reboot that they've wanted for ages. Again, this was only shown off to those at QuakeCon.
