Bethesda Dropping Account Login Requirement for Original Doom Titles

It was, allegedly, never meant to be a requirement.

This past week, Bethesda pushed out the first three Doom titles for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Almost immediately it was discovered that players needed to login to a Bethesda.net account in order to play these games. It was made all the more curious when you realize that the first two Doom titles came out starting in 1993 and have no online multiplayer component.

Bethesda took note of the massive amount of disdain that came about from this very bizarre and wholly unnecessary login requirement...

Doom, the one from 1993, Requires a Bethesda Account to Play on Switch

The outrage is flowing like a river during a downpour.

Earlier today, the first three Doom titles were revealed to be coming to all current consoles, including the Nintendo Switch. They are available right now for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. A mobile release is also coming soon for the first two titles.

Hey, that's great news! Those are some spectacular games that everyone should play at some point. Ah, but there's a catch and it's a weird one at that.

You need to log in at least once with a Bethesda.net account to play these games....

QuakeCon 2019 is All About DOOM

    DOOOOOOOOM!

This year's QuakeCon event is all about DOOM. From the keynote to the panels, it's all DOOM all the time. Well, maybe not all the time, but DOOM is a very significant portion of this year's focus at QuakeCon.

Appropriately, this year's QuakeCon is literally being called "QuakeCon: Year of DOOM." It all begins on July 25 when QuakeCon begins at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center. And yes, once again they will host the largest BYOC LAN event in North America if you're into that.

For those who cannot make it to QuakeCon for...

Doom is the Theme for QuakeCon 2019

If you were to say that Quakecon 2019 is Doomed, you would be correct. Not only because that's the on point headline that Bethesda used in today's press release, but also because Quakecon 2019 is focusing on Doom! It's not even being called QuakeCon 2019, but is instead being called QuakeCon: Year of DOOM!

    DOOM! DOOOOOOOOOOOM!

Even with all this Doom, there's not a whole lot of gloom to be seen, unless you aren't able to get the registrations you wanted for the event. To ensure that doesn't happen, you'll want to visit the revamped Quakecon website starting Thursday,...

Bethesda Confirms They Will be Have an E3 2019 Conference

In a year in which both Sony and EA have bowed out of their annual E3 conferences, it's perhaps reassuring to know that some traditions are still going strong. Bethesda confirmed today that they will be at E3 2019 and will indeed hold their annual E3 Showcase conference.

The studio announced that the 5th Annual Bethesda E3 Showcase will begin on Sunday, June 9 at 5:30PM (PT). They claim it's going to be "a hell of a night" and then goes on to talk about how they'll have an in-depth look at DOOM Eternal. Because "hell of a night" and Doom. Get it? GET IT?!

  • Doom: Annihilation is a New Film. It's a Direct-to-Video Release. The Trailer is Horrible. Try to Act Surprised.

Look, I pretty much said all that needed to be said in the headline. There is indeed a new Doom movie coming. It's being put out by Universal 1440 Entertainment, a division of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. It will be a direct-to-video release slated to hit this Fall.

For you youngsters at home, this is what a "video" refers to. While they may not be around all that much, saying something is "direct-to-video" means that it's probably too terrible for a theatrical release and is looking to make a quick buck by just coming out directly on Blu-ray...
