A next-gen city builder is coming.

Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order just announced Cities: Skylines 2. This will be a full sequel the the awesome 2015 city building game Cities: Skylines. Sadly, today's announcement was a little light on the details about what fans can expect in this full-fledged sequel but there are at least a couple of interesting bits to share.

First off, we know from today's announcement trailer that Cities: Skylines will be out in 2023. The sequel will give players full control over transport and economy systems, construction options, customization options, and will once again fully embrace user-created mods just as the first game did. The trailer also seems to suggest that there will be seasons. Hopefully this means that there will be a visual progression through said seasons and not just some option to pick a season and have it never change.

The first Cities: Skylines went on to sell over 12 million copies since release and filled the gap left by SimCity quite nicely. Over 100,000 different pieces of user created content have been created and released for the first game. Total Gaming Network reviewed the first Cities: Skylines at release and found that there were a few issues that held it back from perfection. The game has been updated several times since then with adjustments, bug fixes, and several significant content releases. At this present point in time, it's safe to say that Cities: Skylines is a 5 out of 5, especially if you decide to try out any of those user mods.

Cities: Skylines 2 looks as though it will better utilize modern hardware as it is targeting PC (via Steam), Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. The past generation of consoles need not apply.
