AGDQ is once again here for 2016. "Awesome Games Done Quick" is a multi-day speed running marathon to help raise money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. Your favorite streamers come from all over the world to play your favorite games as fast as possible all to help raise money for charity. The event just started at noon (ET) today, so there is still plenty of time to catch most of the action. The schedule features a wide assortment of games, including a two hour chunk for the TASBot on the final day. You can catch all of the action through Twitch (also embedded below). You can also get an overview of the event at the Games Done Quick website. You can view the various trackers for the event (prizes, bid wars, donation incentives, etc.). You can also pick up a shirt from The Yetee, where $3 from every item also goes towards charity. Something Artistic is doing something similar where $2 from every decal is put towards this charity event.
And last, but most certainly not least, you can donate towards AGDQ 2016 right here. All donations go towards the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
The mission of the Prevent Cancer Foundation is saving lives through cancer prevention and early detection across all populations. Their vision is to "Stop Cancer Before it Starts"! The Prevent Cancer Foundation is the only U.S. nonprofit organization solely devoted to cancer prevention and early detection. They have invested over $138 million in research, education, advocacy and community outreach programs over the past 30 years.
As for the rest of the schedule... I uh... Erm... Hmm... How does one speedrun Stepmania? I... Don't see how... Is this kind of like Tetris Grandmasters where it's showing off DDR players at the fastest BPM songs and crazy modifiers? Well it's a showcase, so I guess it might not be a speedrun, but it definitely is a game done quick.
Excited for TASBot of course, and mitchflowerpower's Kaizo Mario Bros. 3 should be hilarious given all the BS traps that game has. Also interested to see the Mario Maker challenge, as well as anything TheMexicanRunner does (especially Battletoads). Disappointed to see no Ninja Gaiden race, but gusmancini's Ninja Gaiden III pacifist run will be interesting to watch, as I can't see how that's possible given the game's natural difficulty.
Hmm... Apparently I'm more interested in what this year's AGDQ offers more than I thought. Really expected to be disappointed, but I guess not. I don't like their decision to do GDQMonitor on the final day of any marathon. I want more GDQMonitor damn it! I need more techie snark! MORE TECHIE SNARK YOU HEAR ME GDQMONITOR! YOU MUST WORK ALL 7 DAYS PLUS BONUS DAYS! GDQTABLET WILL STEAL YOUR SPOTLIGHT IF YOU DO NOT WORK ALL DAYS!
Also, save the animals. I don't care if kill the animals never happens year after year, they did nothing wrong, and it's the speedrunner's responsibility to do a complete run as fast as possible. You don't abandon animals if it's not their fault to begin with.
