More broadly, Microsoft is cutting 4,800 jobs.

Today, Microsoft is laying off 2.1% of its workforce. This equates to 4,800 people that are being let go. The company's XBOX division is cutting about 20% of its entire workforce. All of this is being done in an effort to cut costs due to rising prices and expenses brought about by artificial intelligence (AI).

PlayStation is Killing Physical Game Discs

Digital only after January 2028.

Starting January 2028, Sony will no longer produce physical discs for new PlayStation game releases. All games released in January 2028 and after will be available only through digital stores such as the PlayStation Store.

Sony attempts to justify this move by claiming it's a "natural direction" in order to "adapt to consumer trends as the general preference for digital media significantly outpaces physical discs."...

Kaspersky Warns of Malware Spread Through Wallpaper Engine on Steam

Anime continues to be a danger to everyone.

The cybersecurity company Kaspersky has issued a warning about malware being spread through Steam Workshop files for Wallpaper Engine. Malware, hidden through user uploaded wallpaper packages, can lead to issues such as hijacked Steam accounts, the installation of backdoors to a user's PC, or even hidden crypto mining processes.

    In February, DICE announced that the planned February update for Battlefield 2042 would be pushed until March. This was the update that was set to include things like a scoreboard. Well, guess what? Yep, that update has been delayed again.

    Essentially, it's everyone else's fault but their own.

    A new report from Tom Henderson (writing for Xfire) claims that EA management held an internal meeting recently to talk about the problems with Battlefield 2042. At the meeting, EA says that they have "failed to meet the expectations of our players." They then went on to blame factors such as Halo Infinite's launch and COVID for the woes.

    As you may have already heard, there is an online petition making the rounds that Battlefield 2042 fans are signing in earnest. The petition, found at Change.org, claims that those that purchased Battlefield 2042 should be issued refunds due to "false advertising" along with "millions of dollars in damages" and hurt feelings.

    DICE announced today that the planned February update for Battlefield 2042 has now been delayed until sometime in March. This update was set to include things like a scoreboard, voice communication, and a player profile. This update was first announced in mid-January. In fact, DICE just highlighted this update two days ago at the same time that they announced the first content wouldn't be arriving until Summer.

    DICE just detailed the upcoming changes for Update 3.2 that is set to arrive for Battlefield 2042 tomorrow or Thursday, January 20, 2022 depending on when you read this.

    This comes as the player count begins to hit all-time lows.

    Prior to going on their holiday break, DICE added in a Battlefield 2042 Rush mode to Battlefield Portal. It proved to be a fairly popular mode, at least as far as Portal modes are concerned. It was the much enjoyed Rush mode but played out across the Battlefield 2042 maps, something that just isn't possible in the main game.
