XBOX: 1,600 Layoffs Today, Another 1,600 Over the Next Year, Four Studios Now Independent or Sold, Arkane in Limbo

More broadly, Microsoft is cutting 4,800 jobs.

Today, Microsoft is laying off 2.1% of its workforce. This equates to 4,800 people that are being let go. The company's XBOX division is cutting about 20% of its entire workforce. All of this is being done in an effort to cut costs due to rising prices and expenses brought about by artificial intelligence (AI).

As a quick reminder: Microsoft plans to spend $190 billion on AI in 2026. In 2025, the company spent $80 billion...

PlayStation is Killing Physical Game Discs

Digital only after January 2028.

Starting January 2028, Sony will no longer produce physical discs for new PlayStation game releases. All games released in January 2028 and after will be available only through digital stores such as the PlayStation Store.

Sony attempts to justify this move by claiming it's a "natural direction" in order to "adapt to consumer trends as the general preference for digital media significantly outpaces physical discs."...

Lord of Hatred Review: Diablo 4 Finally Finds Its Final Form

This is Diablo 4 at its best. I mean it this time. For real.

Returning to the world of Sanctuary for this latest chapter feels like a true homecoming for those of us who have spent hundreds of hours traversing its dark and unforgiving landscapes since the base game launched back in 2023. The release of the Lord of Hatred expansion marks a significant step forward in the narrative that was originally set in motion during the initial campaign and furthered by the events of the Vesse...

The latest developer briefing contains a lot that will be coming in the future.

Members of the Battlefield 2042 development team at DICE sat down to talk about a variety of topics today. Among those topics were some art passes coming to both maps and Specialists, adjustments to Specialist dialogue, changes to animations, and some of what is coming throughout the game's first season of content.

In addition to announcing that they are ditching Hazard Zone support, today's...

To Nobody's Surprise Hazard Zone Support is Ending for Battlefield 2042

This is the least shocking news ever.

DICE announced that they are no longer going to support or release new content for the Hazard Zone mode in Battlefield 2042.

Now, I know what you're thinking: "How could they end support for something that they never supported in the first place?" And you would be correct in asking that rhetorical question. What this essentially means is that DICE isn't going to convert any new maps into Hazard Zone variants. The mode will...

Among the listed changes, the removal of Breakthrough 128 seems to be the biggest change being made to the game. DICE notes that they feel the 128-player modes...

Undocumented Changes in Battlefield 2042 Update 4.0

Players have found a number of changes that went undocumented.

Today, update 4.0 was released for Battlefield 2042. We went over the numerous changes included in the extensive update 4.0 changelog just yesterday. However, even with that laundry list of fixes and adjustments, there were still some things that were changed that went undocumented by the developers at DICE.

Thankfully, Reddit users are on the case and have compiled a list of over 30 changes that they have...

    Battlefield 2042 Update 4.0 Changelog

This should excite the handful of people still playing. Maybe?

The 4.0 update for Battlefield 2042 will be released on April 19. For those keeping track at home, that is tomorrow. Today? Today we were given the long changelog of what we can all expect from update 4.0.

Notably, this update brings voice chat functionality for your Party and Squads. There is also a change to the End of Round that now displays the Scoreboard. I still just cannot believe a Battlefield game...

DICE Says Battlefield 2042 Hovercraft Climbing is Removed in Update 4.0

Truly, the end of an era.

Prior to the release of Battlefield 2042, players discovered that the hovercraft was able to scale completely vertical surfaces. This led to situations that was sometimes amusing, sometimes frustrating, but always gravity defying.

This, let's call it "exploit," went unchecked for months now. However, it seems as though the era of the gravity defying hovercraft is about to come to an end. A member of the DICE development team working...

Battlefield 2042 Player Count Hits New Milestone

This milestone comes just five months after release.

Player numbers for Battlefield 2042, at least those playing on Steam, have hit an all-new milestone today! Sadly, not all milestones are good. According to both SteamCharts and SteamDB, the concurrent player count for Battlefield 2042 fell below 1,000 players for the first time.

SteamCharts showed as few as 979 players were on at once while SteamDB shows a slightly less grim count of 983 players.

Battlefield 2042 Scoreboard Arrives March 8 with Update 3.3

DICE has done the unthinkable and added a scoreboard to Battlefield.

DICE just detailed the changes and content coming in Update 3.3 for Battlefield 2042. This update, set to drop on March 8, includes the long-awaited scoreboard. Yep, a scoreboard is a highlight of a patch releasing some four months after the game's initial release. What a time to be alive.

Besides the scoreboard, this update also includes more bug fixes, some changes related to control and key bindings,...

Battlefield 2042 Team Begins 'Core Feedback' System for Maps

A new blogpost suggests DICE has some doubts about their 128-player count.

Battlefield 2042 hasn't had what anybody would consider to be a "good" launch. Here we are, less than 4 months since release with a game that can't even get as many Steam players as Battlefield 4, a game that came out over eight years ago now. In terms of player count, Battlefield 2042's 24-hour peak Steam player count (2,090) sits behind Battlefield 4 (2,195), Battlefield 1 (7,498), and Battlefield...

Battlefield 2042 Scoreboard Update is Delayed Until Next Week

At least it's only a week this time?

In February, DICE announced that the planned February update for Battlefield 2042 would be pushed until March. This was the update that was set to include things like a scoreboard. Well, guess what? Yep, that update has been delayed again.

DICE just announced that they are pushing the update live next week, which is a week later than they previously said. This shouldn't be too surprising to anybody who has followed the recent news...

  • EA Management Reportedly Blame COVID and Halo Infinite for Battlefield 2042 Issues

Essentially, it's everyone else's fault but their own.

A new report from Tom Henderson (writing for Xfire) claims that EA management held an internal meeting recently to talk about the problems with Battlefield 2042. At the meeting, EA says that they have "failed to meet the expectations of our players." They then went on to blame factors such as Halo Infinite's launch and COVID for the woes.

At this company-wide meeting, EA management spent over 20 minutes trying...

  • Useless Online Petition for Battlefield 2042 Refunds Hits 162,000 Signatures

I wasn't going to write about this, but here we are.

As you may have already heard, there is an online petition making the rounds that Battlefield 2042 fans are signing in earnest. The petition, found at Change.org, claims that those that purchased Battlefield 2042 should be issued refunds due to "false advertising" along with "millions of dollars in damages" and hurt feelings.

No, seriously, they actually included the reason of "upset thousands...

DICE Has Now Delayed the Battlefield 2042 Scoreboard

    I give up.

DICE announced today that the planned February update for Battlefield 2042 has now been delayed until sometime in March. This update was set to include things like a scoreboard, voice communication, and a player profile. This update was first announced in mid-January. In fact, DICE just highlighted this update two days ago at the same time that they announced the first content wouldn't be arriving until Summer.

Sure, the delay isn't terribly long, but like......

Battlefield 2042 Season One Delayed Until Summer

The developers need extra time to try to fix the literal everything that is wrong with the game first.

Where do I even start with this one. Alright, first off, it was announced today that Season One for Battlefield 2042 has been delayed until at least Summer 2022. That means there will not be any new maps, weapons, gadgets, Specialists, or whatever until at least late June. While there wasn't really any official date previously announced, the running theory is that Season One would...

DICE Disables Official XP Farm in Battlefield 2042

How it was ever approved in the first place is beyond me.

Alongside yesterday's update for Battlefield 2042 came the usual new rotation of official Battlefield Portal experiences. One of those officially created and promoted modes was called Zombie Survival. In this mode, you were facing off against hordes of A.I. controlled "zombies" that were equipped only with knives. Your goal was to survive for as long as possible.

There was just one problem: This mode made...

  • How Many Games Did You Complete in 2025?
    by Shawn Zipay
Make up your own definition of "complete."

Was 2025 a big year for game completions for you, or were you more of a "stick to one never-ending, live-service game for the entire year" sort of player?

For this, you can take whatever definition you want as a game "completion." Beat the main story? Earned 100% of the game's achievements? Or simply played enough that you're satisfied with what you accomplished and have no plans to return any time...
