Today's update for Battlefield 2042 offers next-gen players and PC players a little taste of what life is like on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. For a limited time, Battlefield 2042's All-Out-War modes will include 64-player options for both Conquest and Breakthrough game types.
This is a change that has been requested by players pretty much right as the game launched. The idea is that these reduced player amounts and reduced map sizes will provide fans with more close-quarters combat that the 128-player matches didn't seem to provide.
Though the menu options say that they're available for a limited time, there is no end date included. It is possible that DICE adds these two extra options as permanent additions to the game, but it's just too early to say. Interestingly enough, those who have already tried these smaller experiences on PC have noted some performance gains. It's probably expected given that you're cutting the player count in half, reducing the number of vehicles, and also removing encounters across significant portions of each map.
DICE has also said that the Portal Rush featured playlist will stick around through the holidays.
If you aren't a fan of any of this, perhaps you will be interested to hear that there will soon be a Santa vs. Elves mode coming for the holidays. This mode wasn't announced by DICE or EA, but rather from Xbox.com in a post talking about seasonal events that have come to various games. One of the games listed was Battlefield 2042.
Battlefield 2042: Festive forces are taking over the world of Battlefield 2042 in Attack of the Elves, a brand-new holiday themed experience featured in Portal from December 16, 2021 to January 6, 2022. It’s a 32-player infection mode where Team Santa will battle against Team Elves for victory. Join this epic holiday battle starting December 16.
Also, if you haven't yet read it, the review for Battlefield 2042 went up last week. That's also very much a thing.
