  • New OD Trailer: Kojima & Peele's New Horror Game Revealed

OD and PT are both two letters. Think about it.

Hideo Kojima revealed the first trailer for OD, the upcoming horror game being worked on for Xbox Game Studios. The new trailer was shared during the Kojima Productions: Beyond the Strand event.

As previously announced, the game will star Sophia Lillis. The trailer shows as as Lillis' character navigating a creepy house and attempting to light candles before someone comes knocking.

You may recognize Lillis for her roles in the 2017 film It (and It: Chapter Two), Dungeons & Dragons: honor Among Thieves, and Asteroid City. She will be joined by Udo Kier (The Secret Agent, Swan Song) and Hunter Schafer (Cuckoo, Euphoria).

Kojima revealed that the full name of OD is OD: Knock. He admits that he's "really afraid of big knock sounds." OD: Knock is co-written by modern horror master Jordan Peele. Peele is known for directing, producing and writing films such as Get Out, Nope, Us, and Him.

The trailer reveals a few clues as to the story and background for OD. Redacted text that periodically appeared suggests that the story takes place 10 years after some horrific event.

We also know that OD is being built on Unreal Engine 5. They will also utilize MetaHuman for ultra-realistic, lifelike characters. MetaHuman was previously used by Kojima Productions for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, says, "Kojima is innovating in gameplay, story, and player engagement." He says that Xbox and Kojima Productions are "collaborating closely" and that he's "very excited for what's next."

    Spencer elaborated:

When I first saw it I saw something new, something slightly sinister, but also something that was extremely Kojima-san. OD is bold, it's unique, and it's unmistakably from this studio, which is just incredible. We're deeply supporting the production, it's our technical work on Unreal that we're doing with the team, both with the kind of flashy what you're seeing on the screen, but also a lot of behind the scenes work. We have one goal in mind, which is to bring Kojima-san's vision to life for all players, everywhere, and we can't wait for players to experience it when it is ready.
Any additional details on OD are being kept close to Kojima's chest, or rather, perhaps close to his pants. He states that OD is "really scary, and you'll probably do in your pants."

Critical Consensus: Alone in the Dark
      by Shawn Zipay
Fails to live up to others in the genre this franchise helped to create.

The Alone in the Dark reboot was just released today and it seems like the reviews have placed it firmly in the realm of being merely ok but with some serious shortcomings. This release from Pieces Interactive and THQ Nordic currently sits at a 62% critical average on OpenCritic, with only 42% of reviewers recommending this new release.

Interestingly, the actual scores for this game range everywhere...
