Sony's Hermen Hulst standing next to Hideo Kojima.

Hideo Kojima announced that he is working on a new action espionage game in a partnership with Sony. Details are extremely scarce on this announcement but it was made at the tail end of today's State of Play.

All we know right now is that Kojima and his studio, Kojima Productions, will be working on this title after the release of Death Stranding 2. Presumably, this game may not enter into full production until after both Death Stranding 2 and the Xbox exclusive horror title, OD, are both released.

Kojima, alongside PlayStation Studios lead Hermen Hulst, says that this will be an entirely new intellectual property. He continued on to say that it will be as much of a movie as it will be an interactive game. Anybody who has ever played any Metal Gear Solid title will tell you that this is very much on par for Kojima.

Kojima says that this new project "will be the culmination of my work". He adds, "we hope to transcend the barriers between film and video games". Right at the end, Kojima turned to a side camera to say "stay tuned" before the camera pulled back from the building to reveal a Columbia Pictures sign with the word "Physint" right below it. A look at that final shot can actually be seen below.

Expected release dates and release platforms were obviously not yet shared. A PlayStation 5 (or 6?) release is essentially guaranteed given this partnership. A PC release may also be possible but as we mentioned, no details were shared.
