It is rumored that Halo will be rebooted as a franchise after Activision was given control following the latest "reset" of all things XBOX at Microsoft. This claim comes from TechnicalHalo on Twitter, who says, "lore is not going to be continued."
This rumor follows the news from yesterday that XBOX laid off an additional 268 employees, many of whom came from Halo Studios. As part of the ongoing "reset" at XBOX, several franchises and studios were shuffled around. This includes moving Halo to Activision, with what remains of Halo Studios serving only as a support studio.
TechnicalHalo claims that the next Halo will begin a "new chapter" for the franchise. He continues to flatly state that the "lore is not going to be continued."
Keep in mind that this is just one "insider" saying these things right now. There have been no additional claims by other known insiders, one way or another, on whether Activision plans to reboot the Halo franchise.
The latest Halo release was Halo: Campaign Evolved. This was a remake of the original Halo campaign that also marked the debut of the franchise on PlayStation. The last new Halo title was 2021's Halo Infinite.
