Until January.
To the surprise to many, including myself, the servers for the 2019 BioWare developed Anthem are still apparently live. That means you can go, right now, to play Anthem just as god intended.
Unfortunately, you won't have too much time to experience the game because publisher Electronic Arts will be taking those servers down in January 2026. The online only title will be rendered unplayable starting January 12, 2026 as per a new announcement from EA.
Anthem has already been pulled from storefronts, meaning that the only way to play it now is if you already owned the game prior. If you have an EA Play membership, you will be able to play Anthem until August 15, 2025. It is on that date that EA will pull Anthem from the EA Play playlist.
Electronic Arts also notes that nobody at BioWare is being laid off as a result of the Anthem servers being taken offline. After all, layoffs at BioWare already happened earlier this year.
Really, the most shocking part of this news being announced is the fact that the servers are still alive. Like most of you probably assumed, I honestly thought they had quietly been shutdown years ago.

by Shawn ZipayIt's the first new Anthem news in over a month.
If you were to ask BioWare how games as a service (GAAS) was working out for Anthem you may be met with some anxious tugging at collars and cold sweats in response. For well over a month, the EA owned studio has been radio silent on just what in the world was going on with the game.
May mostly came and went without so much as a peep about the big Cataclysm event that was originally intended to begin this month. In fact, there...-

by Shawn ZipayThe servers are no more.
BioWare's attempt at a big live-service and always-online game, Anthem, is officially no more. As the clock struck 10 AM PT, the online servers for Anthem started to be shutdown. This means that the game is no longer playable by anybody ever again.
Electronic Arts and BioWare announced back in July 2025 that they would be taking the Anthem servers offline on January 12. As it so happens to be January 12, 2026, they did indeed take the servers...-

by Shawn ZipayBioWare officially announces their plans to make major changes.
Anthem as it currently exists is hanging on by the most tenuous of threads. Despite apparently being one of 2019's top selling titles, at least according to data shared by The NPD Group, the player base is next to non-existent. It would take a significant amount of work to get players interested in the game once again, which is apparently what BioWare has been working on behind the scenes for a little while now.
