Square Enix says that the second part to their Final Fantasy 7 remake/reboot is coming very, very soon. A release date for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has been set for February 29, 2024 on the PlayStation 5.
This announcement came alongside a new trailer for Rebirth as part of this week's PlayStation State of Play broadcast. The new trailer shows off additional playable characters such as Red XIII, Yuffie, and Cait Sith. We also get a very brief tease of Vincent Valentine, but it's not clear right now if Vincent will be a playable character in Rebirth or not.
We also get a little look at some Segway riding action, Chocobo racing, and plenty of towns and other locations familiar to those that have played the original game. We even get brief glimpses of a Weapon boss or two.
The core team of Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, and Barret will set out into the broader world outside of Midgar in pursuit of Sephiroth. This is the second of a planned three-part remake/reboot of the classic RPG.
"This is the second title of a trilogy, and covers between the start of the journey outside Midgar to the midpoint of the original FINAL FANTASY VII. If FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE was an introduction to the world and a preparation for this journey, FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH serves as an illustration of the incidents that started the journey, an exploration of the people tied to it, and the journey itself, heading toward its climax. Many elements were carefully selected for this title and because this is a series, we have the unique opportunity to review and incorporate feedback from the previous title, such as by increasing the number of characters. I am sure that the bar for the next work will be raised even higher now that we have included so many spectacular elements in this work, but even so, the entire team continues to work diligently and without compromise on its development.
There is also the looming question of what fate awaits. Whether you have experienced the original title or will embark on this adventure with fresh eyes, we hope you will face the ending of this work on your own terms." - Tetsuya Nomura, Creative Director

This does not guarantee that a PC or Xbox release will take place on May 29th. In fact, it's not a guarantee of anything. As you recall, a similar thing happened prior to the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PS4. The initial reveal of that game said it would be a timed exclusive until March 3, 2021. But then Square Enix and Sony tried to wipe that information from existence. Remake continued to be exclusive to Sony platforms through to the release of Final Fantasy 7 Intergrade for PS5 on June 10, 2021. Remake did eventually hit PC on December 16, 2021 but was a timed exclusive on the Epic Games Store. It wasn't until June 17, 2022 that it finally hit Steam.
So, you know, maybe don't get your hopes up for a non-PlayStation or non-timed exclusive release on May 29th. Xbox owners still don't even have the first part yet and there is no word that either Remake or Rebirth will ever hit that platform.
