As many players have come to find out already, that Fallout 4 next-gen update seems to be quite busted on all platforms. The issues that have come from last week's update are perhaps most evident with the PC version of the game. While consoles may have some bugs here and there that are common to all platforms, the PC version has the added pitfall of user mods being completely broken.

At release, the only course of action PC gamers had was to either prevent the update from downloading on Steam or, if they owned the GOG version, simply rolling back to the version before the update. Now, Steam users have a way to rollback as well, all thanks to a couple of very popular mods on NexusMods.

A quick look at the Fallout 4 Nexus page shows you what the currently trending mods are. The top two trending mods are ones that essentially roll the game back to the version that existed before this next-gen update rolled out. They are the Fallout 4 Downgrader and the Steam - Skip Next-gen Update mods. The update has caused so many issues for players and modders, that just these two mods have been downloaded over 37,000 times already.

Though both mods seem to differ slightly in how they behave, both seem to allow users to rollback or stick to a version of the game from before the next-gen update came out. The Fallout 4 Downgrader specifically, says that it reverts the game to a pre-update version. The other mod seems more focused on those players who have yet to download the update on Steam as it tricks Steam into thinking you did download the update already.

Using either mod means that things like the Fallout 4 Script Extender will again work, as will all mods that worked on the older version of the game before this update. Being able to use the Script Extender is a big plus for many as most major mods need it installed in order to work.

Bethesda has officially commented on only one of the still lingering issues from this next-gen update. It was said that the Performance and Quality mode toggle on Xbox Series X specifially was actually working as intended. Users believed that it was broken because there didn't seem to be any change to the visuals when it was toggled. Bethesda stated on April 27th that Fallout 4 now targets 4K 60fps in all modes. They say that Performance Mode is simply more aggressive in lowering some settings (when needed) in order to maintain that target.

As for the myriad of other issues present in the game after the next-gen update? Well, we'll just have to keep waiting to see when, or if, Bethesda addresses them.
