PlayStation 5 owners have big reason to celebrate today because Final Fantasy 16 is now available. Unlike previous entries in the main series, Final Fantasy 16 is a true action-RPG through and through.

Final Fantasy 16 combines dynamic real-time action combat with RPG mainstays you have come to know and love. Development lead Naoki Yoshida notes that the goal of Square Enix was to create a Final Fantasy title that can be enjoyed by all players, new and old fans, provided those players own a PlayStation 5.

There are some helpful items that can aid players, if they choose to use them. These items are called Timely Accessories, which can alter gameplay difficulty across a variety of systems to fit individual play styles. There is also the new Active Time Lore (ATL) system. This ATL system is available at any time in the game, including during cutscenes. ATL allows players to dive into the story background and lore for people and places that are on screen and those that were just encountered. There are over 2,800 entries that offer additional backstory to the lands of Valisthea and the people that live there.

If you have yet to decide on purchasing Final Fantasy 16, the demo is still available. This demo gives you access to the lengthy opening prologue to the game. Progress made in the prologue will carry over to the full game should you ever decide to pick it up later.

FINAL FANTASY XVI introduces players to an all-new story in the FINAL FANTASY universe, an epic dark fantasy that takes place in the realms of Valisthea – a land blessed in the light of the Mothercrystals, and where peace falters as the spread of the Blight threatens to destroy their dominions. The fate of the land is decided by the Eikons, mighty summoned beasts and their Dominants, men and women who have been blessed with the ability to call upon and wield them. This is the tale of Clive Rosfield, a warrior granted the title “First Shield of Rosaria” and sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix, Eikon of Fire. Before long, Clive will be caught up in a great tragedy and swear revenge on the Dark Eikon known as Ifrit, a mysterious entity that brings calamity in its wake.
