Dead Island 2 was announced way back at E3 2014. The announcement trailer was pretty great. It was supposed to be out Spring 2015. Then it was delayed until 2016. Then the Dead Island 2 developer, Yager, was dropped by Deep Silver. Then in 2016 it was reported that Sumo Digital took over the development of Dead Island 2. Then in 2019, Sumo Digital partnered with 2K for some mystery projects, with at least one presumed to be Dead Island 2. Finally, later on in 2019 we learned that THQ Nordic put Dambuster Studios in charge of the Dead Island franchise.
Then all was silent.
Until now.
Amazon looks to have leaked the first story and gameplay details for Dead Island 2 after three years of hearing absolutely nothing about the game. Not only that, but the listing on Amazon (since deleted) provided a look at the game's box art and even provided a February 3, 2023 release date. It's possible that is a placeholder date, but placeholder dates are usually set to "December 31" for a given year, not something like February 3.
The description for the game says that you will have six characters to pick from, each with their own unique personalities and dialogue. It also seems to confirm that Dead Island 2 will take place in Los Angeles, which isn't much of an island as we know it, but I digress. Combat is said to be "intense, visceral, and gory."
The Amazon listing talked briefly about a Day 1 Edition that includes a Memories of Banoi Pack. That includes a Banoi War Club, Memories of Banoi Baseball Bat, Weapon Perk - balanced, and a Personal Space skill card. A longer product description provides a tiny bit of additional story details, so let's take a look at that now.
