Sony says that they will soon retire a PlayStation 5 launch feature that has gone largely unused. The system's Accolades feature will be killed off in Fall 2022 because there just hasn't been that many people making use of it.
The statement by Sony, relayed by TheSixthAxis, says that since launch, the Accolades feature is one of the least used features on the platform. Accolades were a way of encouraging players to share a more positive gaming experience with others. Accolades could be given to other players for reasons such as being Helpful, or Welcoming, or for being a Good Sport.
In what can only be described as a "truly shocking" revelation, gamers just did not care all that much about spreading positivity. Sony's statement is as follows:
In fall of 2022, the Accolades feature on PlayStation 5 will no longer be supported. The feature hasn’t seen the level of usage we anticipated, so we are refocusing our efforts. We encourage the community to continue to send positive messages to one another.
While Accolades are going away, Sony already announced a different feature that they are adding soon. That is their PlayStation Stars loyalty program, which is expected to go live before the end of the year.
So 3 days later, and I want to chime in again to say I still believe there is a nicer side of the internet, full of kind people who make charity events successful and morally support one another. And they are the ones who are waiting to buy a PS5. If they had one, they could prove enough people will give positive reinforcement to one another through this abandoned feature.
.......I still have faith in part of the internet community... I still do..... C'mon! Faith!............ I could be right... Right?... Somewhat? Remotely? Possibly plausible?... Let me dream damn it.
