Last year, Gearbox revealed that full cross-play functionality for Borderlands 3 was ready to go. However, the studio had to pull the feature from PlayStation consoles because Sony, at the time, was very much against cross-play with other platforms.

Thankfully, Sony has learned how to take a chill pill and are allowing full cross-play for titles, including Borderlands 3. At PAX East, Gearbox announced that cross-play will arrive this spring. This means that PlayStation, Xbox, and PC players can all play together in harmony.

Gearbox's most recent release, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, had full cross-play already built into it for all platforms as Sony's leash has loosened considerably over the past year. This has allowed four-players across any platform to play together right from the get-go.

Sony's stance on cross-play functionality has changed over time thanks to major titles like Fortnite, Call of Duty, and Rocket League pushing hard for cross-play. In 2022, several games now support full cross-play across all platforms that they are available on. These titles include Overwatch, Rainbow Six Extraction, and even Sony's own MLB The Show 22, which is out on every platform except PC.
