Plus Sonic returns to the Olympics.
Today, Sonic Central held a stream that revealed a number of new projects featuring none other than Sonic the Hedgehog. These announcements were all centered around the 30th anniversary celebration of the franchise. Let's take a quick look at what was announced during today's short stream.
First up, a very brief teaser was shown off for an entirely new Sonic game. This game is being worked on by Sonic Team and revealed that it will be released in 2022 for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Beyond that, nothing else was really revealed for this one.
Next, a remaster of Sonic Colors was announced. This one is called Sonic Colors: Ultimate and will be released on the PS4, XB1, Switch, and PC via the Epic Games Store on September 7. This is a remaster of the 2010 Wii title. The remaster will obviously include enhanced visuals along with some new gameplay features and a new mode called Rival Rush.
We also got an announcement for Sonic Origins, a compilation of Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, 3 & Knuckles, along with Sonic CD. Neither a release date nor release platforms was announced.
Other Sonic related news includes the addition of Sonic into Two Point Hospital on July 22. There will be a realistic Sonic suit that your avatar can wear in Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 - The Official Video Game. Along with the Sonic Colors remaster, there will be a two-part animated series called Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps. We also learned that there will be special events for the Sonic mobile games. Netflix and Sega are also working on a 24-episode animated Sonic series set to premiere in 2022.
