The third Sonic the Hedgehog movie, aptly named Sonic the Hedgehog 3, made its premiere on December 10. The release of the film in the United States isn't even until tomorrow, December 20th. That hasn't stopped Paramount from announcing that a fourth film, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, will be coming in Spring 2027.
Variety is the first to announce that a fourth film is already being worked on. This news seems to be supported by another post-credits teaser at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Outside of said teaser, obviously nothing else about the fourth film is known quiet yet.
Speaking of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the film is expected to pull in between $55 million to $60 million at the weekend box office. This third film is also scoring well with critics, sitting at an 86% "Fresh" rating at Rotten Tomatoes.
The first two Sonic films have pulled in over $725 million at the global box office. They have pulled in another $180 million "in global consumer spending from home entertainment rentals and digital purchases."
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is once again directed by Jeff Fowler. The film stars Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, Ben Schwartz as Sonic, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Idris Elba as Knuckles, Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Tails, and Keanu Reeves as Shadow the Hedgehog.
