The long standing game director for Overwatch, Jeff Kaplan, has parted ways with Blizzard after several years of employment with the studio. Kaplan was an employee at Blizzard for over 19 years. In his place as the new lead on Overwatch and Overwatch 2 will be Aaron Keller. Keller is an 18-year veteran of Blizzard and was one of the founding members of the Overwatch team. Keller worked on Overwatch alongside Kaplan since the beginning and also had a hand in helping to build World of Warcraft.

Kaplan did issue a short statement about his departure.

i am leaving Blizzard Entertainment after 19 amazing years.

it was truly the honor of a lifetime to have the opportunity to create worlds and heroes for such a passionate audience. i want to express my deep appreciation to everyone at blizzard who supported our games, our game teams and our players. but i want to say a special thanks to the wonderful game developers that shared in the journey of creation with me.

never accept the world as it appears to be. always dare to see it for what it could be. i hope you do the same.

gg,

jeffrey kaplan
Overwatch 2 has been in development since at least late 2019 when it was announced. At present, there is no release date for the game.
