Mass Effect

Some sad news for you today as we bring you word that Mass Effect: Legendary Edition has been "delayed" until early 2021 from a planned October 2020 release window. But wait, what's this? Mass Effect: Legendary Edition didn't have a release date? It wasn't even announced by EA yet? You don't know what Mass Effect: Legendary Edition even is?

Let's rewind a bit on this one.

So far as we know, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is supposedly the name a compilation of the first three Mass Effect titles in one new bundle. They were reportedly reworked and remastered in a number of different ways, with the first game getting the most attention from BioWare. Various insiders and even some retailers seemed to suggest that this compilation would be out this October. This rumor persisted for months, even without EA ever having officially announcing anything.

Today, one of those insiders, Jeff Grubb at VentureBeat, came out with the reveal of the "delay" from October of this year to a release that is happening some time in early 2021. His sources are "people familiar with the development" on the project.

The primary factor holding up development, beyond the pandemic, is the original Mass Effect game. It currently does not live up to the quality of the rest of the package. It would make a poor first impression for new players, and it might disappoint fans who then won’t go on to play and experience the impressive upgrades for Mass Effect 2 and ME 3.

This is a problem with both the visuals and gameplay. The people working on the game understand the issues, and they want to do right by the franchise’s fans.
Grubb goes on to say that there will be one thing that is for sure cut from Mass Effect: Legendary Edition and that is Mass Effect 3's multiplayer component. That, above all else, sounds like the most disappointing part about today's news.
