  • Bungie Details Destiny 2's Season of the Worthy

A new Season begins on March 10.
Destiny 2 Season of the Worthy

Bungie finally revealed more details for their upcoming Season of the Worthy for Destiny 2 today. As it turns out, while a big focus will be on the return of Trials of Osiris, there will be some non-PvP content included. As part of today's big reveal, we get a look at a partial roadmap for the new season, a look at some new and returning gear, a little bit of a plot dump, and even a new trailer.

The first thing you may be interested in seeing is a breakdown of what is going to be free for this new season and what those with the Season Pass will have access to.

Of course, without any sort of context, most of what was listed above probably doesn't make a lick of sense to you. Season of the Worthy will find players trying to save the Last City from a new threat. That threat is apparently an escaped Psion Flayer that wants to crash The Almighty into the city. For those of you who have forgotten, The Almighty is the giant Cabal ship that you fought on at the end of the base game of Destiny 2. This thing eats up stars and converts them to fuel.

Think about how many times you've been taken out by a little Cabal drop pod. Now think about that happening to the Last City all at once. That has to suck for them! At least, it will suck unless you can stop it from happening. And how exactly is that supposed to happen? You apparently have to "power up Rasputin." That seems to indicate that there will finally be some significant developments coming from that old Warmind.

    SAVE THE LAST CITY
With the Sundial freed from the clutches of the Red Legion, one escaped Psion Flayer enacts a desperate ploy for revenge against the Last City. Guardians of the Light must set aside old differences to band together with unlikely allies and save the City from total destruction.

    TIME IS RUNNING OUT
Race against time to save the Last City from destruction.

    SERAPH TOWERS
Join your fellow Guardians and prepare Rasputin’s defenses in shared public events.

    BOUNTIES & BUNKERS
Rise to Rasputin’s Challenge and clear bunkers throughout the system to reestablish communication with the Warmind.
Those who prefer to play PvP may be happy to hear about the return of Trials of Osiris. Though Bungie detailed this in a previous "This Week at Bungie" news brief, and a trailer reveal, they did provide a little bit extra information today.

    TRIALS OF OSIRIS
The Cult of Osiris seeks Guardians with flawless execution and incomparable teamwork. Is the challenge of a perfect victory too daunting or does your fireteam have the edge to reign? Exclusive rewards await those who never lose.

    HERE TO STAY
The pinnacle of PvP is back and it’s here to stay. Fight for victory every weekend in this Power-enabled 3v3 Crucible playlist.

    FREE TO PLAY
All Guardians at Power level 960 or greater can compete.

    PERFECTION REWARDED
Get multiple wins in a row to earn Pinnacle gear. Win seven in a row to earn additional rewards and special access to The Lighthouse.
In addition to showing off a new exotic weapon, Tommy's Matchbook, players also get a look at some of the new seasonal gear coming. Bungie also showed off the fact that they're bringing back The Fourth Horseman shotgun from Destiny 1.

Those who own the Season Pass can look forward to having 11 out of 100 ranks drop glimmer in Season of the Worthy. Please be excited. The current roadmap for Destiny 2: Season of the Worthy can be found below. As with all previous roadmaps for the game, the dates and content may change as the season progresses. It is at least interesting to note that they include the phrase "and more" as part of the roadmap. Perhaps last season's complete blunder with Bastion forced Bungie to fix how they drip feed content that is supposed to be a "surprise."

Like the first game, we're left wanting more.

When Destiny first launched in late 2014, it was something special, almost magical. Bungie and Activision created a new franchise that let players explore parts of our Solar System from their couches, forge new friendships, take down massive enemies, and feel akin to comic book superheroes. However, that game was not without its faults. At launch, the game lacked much in the way of in-game story, opting instead to send the...
