Codemasters and Koch Media released some hot new details for hopeful Dirt 4 fans today. The latest is all about the FIA World Rallycross including a new trailer and details about this unique partnership.
DiRT 4 is the official game of the FIA World Rallycross championship and the new gameplay trailer shows Supercars racing at Lohéac Bretagne, Montalegre, Lydden Hill, Hell and Holjes. In addition to the Supercar class, DiRT 4 also has rallycross racing in RX2, Super 1600s, Group B classics and crosskarts making it a fully fledged rallycross experience.

Developed in consultation from two time FIA World Rallycross Champion, Petter Solberg, the rallycross handling in DiRT 4 has undergone a complete overhaul to ensure it is as close to the real thing as possible.

Rallycross is thrilling multicar, circuit racing on mixed surfaces made up of both dirt and asphalt. The short, quick-fire races take four to six laps and each car must complete at least one ‘Joker Lap’ which is longer than the traditional lap leading to tactical, enthralling wheel-to-wheel racing. Drivers compete in four qualifying races before the top drivers make the semi finals and final. The supercar class in the FIA World Rallycross Championship are 600bhp beasts that accelerate from 0-60mph in under 2 seconds – faster than a Formula One car.

Dirt 4 will be out on June 9 for the PC, PS4, and XB1.

Multi-car circuit racing? Hmm... I'm more used to the single-car racing based on lap times on each stage. Rallycross should be interesting, although I don't like the idea of other cars interfering with my driving. Then again, I also don't like driving all alone either, so maybe this IS what I wanted. I do know that Dirt Rally on Steam is one of the few games to kick ass from Early Access to full retail. They definitely used Early Access in the most appropriate and intended way possible, and it got released smelling like a rose. Like DAMN Dirt Rally was the refreshing return to roots rally racing game I desparately needed. So with the same developers at the helm of this game, I might check this out if they're given a reasonable amount of development time like Dirt Rally did.

(I do miss Sega Rally though. Sega Rally 3/Revo didn't exactly scratch that itch enough.)

I love the Dirt series, and as much as i love rally racing Dirt Rally was slightly too hardcore for me, anything past the slowest tier of cars was too difficult for me to succeed at when dipping 1 wheel off the egde of the road was enough to spin you out completely.
Hopefully Dirt 4 is less like Rally and more like it's predecessors, Rallycross is nuts.
